I am glad you figured it out.  I was having trouble with AOL and switched to Internet Explorer and it works better.

You must have been able at one time to join the groups.  You are a member of the Bay Area and LA, Sacramento groups.  Once you have joined the group, that tab will go away because you are already a member. 

 

Did you try to send a message to the Bay Area or LA group?  Which group did you try to send a message to?  I need a little more info.
