COVER DEPO NEW YORK PROBLEM/WARNING - ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I took an evening hearing job for an agency who listed their assignment on Cover Depo NY in early May (who will remain anonymous at the present time).
Turns out the job expedited ~ I got it to them on the date requested.
They never told me before taking the assignment they had specific margins. They asked me to change them the day I delivered it, when I was at another job, and after emailing me several times to do so while I was at my job and unable to do it, they said they spent four hours (the job was 49 pages!!!) doing it and were going to charge me for doing the changes. When I protested they told me I should sue them. While they maintain a NY addy and phone #, they are actually out of Texas!!!!
FYI, I STILL have not been paid. Wonder if anyone has had similar dealings and if anyone has suggestions.
This is also a warning as they are again posting ads looking for reporters.
Any feedback is welcome.

Ah ... NY dep, NY firm ... then your formatting should've been fine as-is, I would think.

Might be too soon, but you could try the collection agency discussed here:

If, after using the info in the link above, you get no satisfaction, maybe naming names (or even better, complaining to Monti) is in order.

Sorry to not be of much help ....

Rosalie,
Thanks for your input, but how do you go about suing someone who is not in your state? Not very easy, which is why I was told to sue...perhaps this is a m.o. and she's done this in the past can only be my guess...
Glen,
Terms? There were none spelled out. And this is a job that was done in NY for a firm in NY so as far as "conforming" to Texas formats I don't think that would apply. Did I mention that I rebilled her for the pages she came up with and have rec'd NOTHING. I've been a reporter for over 20 years and do work for many agencies - never came across this before and am stunned that I took an evening job that expedited and I may not ever get paid for it. SO UNFAIR AND UNETHICAL.

Just curious, but what terms *were* spelled out when you took the contract? I would think that margins, fonts, etc. would've been something that *had* to be in writing -- especially since your firm is in a different state.

On the other hand, if this is a Texas firm, their transcript has to conform to the Texas CRB format. I suggest that you compare those desired changes with the CRB formatting requirements. If they don't match that, then there is an even deeper problem, I would think ....!

Finally, you might want to post a question about the agency (and the CRB format, for that matter) over on the Depoman forum, as a lot of the participants are out of Texas ... and they might have heard of this particular agency.

Good luck to you .....

Another way for them to keep the money and not pay the reporter. I think there should be a blog of firms who do unethical things without showing who is posting it. I hate firms that you do a favor for when they couldn't get their regular staff to take the job, that turn around and screw the reporter instead of thanking them for their hlep. I would sue them, especially since they told you to.

Something is rotten in Texas I don't buy the four-hour editing time to change the codes or template on a 49-page job.
