Does anyone have a suggestion as the best source for starting up Realtime? I do it for all of my jobs, but want to get to the next level so that I can pass the May CRR exam.
Is there a seminar?
Is it best to do an in-depth training session on my Catalyst software?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Good to know, thank you. I'll look on the USCRA website as well. I

Test jitters is probably what keeps the majority from passing. I'm not sure of the best method to overcome that, but over-qualifying definitely has to be a good start. Also, NCRA has added an additional skills testing for the CRR in August, so I believe that will give four opportunities per year to take the CRR exam. It's expensive, but at least you have more chances per year if you're willing to pay the fee. In addition, USCRA (United States Court Reporters Association) offers a realtime exam (FCRR) twice per year, and they offer two tests at each exam. So in all that's a total of at least eight chances per year to become realtime certified.

In my situation, it has always been a case of test jitters. If I over-qualify myself, perhaps that will be the key. I do have the CD's from the NCRA and have also been working with the free trial version of Realtime Coach. I'll try the practice drills both ways to see which one works best for me.

And always remember it's your choice to do the CRR exam in all caps or upper and lower case. For me personally all caps made less room for error, but that's something you can decide for yourself.

The best thing to do first is obtain CDs of past CRR tests from NCRA and go to NCRA's website and read the criteria for the CRR exam to give you an idea of the test and what you'll be required to do. I don't know that a training session of your software would really be necessary since you're already doing realtime on all of your jobs and it seems you already know the basics. At the CRR exam you'll be required to make an ASCII file of the realtime test, and that's basically the most technical thing involved from your aspect since you're already doing realtime for yourself. It would be good to familiarize yourself with "what is an error" according to NCRA's test grading. Practice the CDs from start to finish without stopping and grade yourself according to NCRA's guidelines and see how you do. That way you can assess your dictionary and see what you need to work on.

I've gotten the trial version. What I'm not seeing on it though is an example of how to resolve your issues. It is only showing me the drops, wrong words, and accuracy percentages.

Hi Lisa,

NCRA is offering a free trial of Realtime Coach this month to members. That's a great way to prepare for the test and to adjust to the feel of the test setting since you are graded on your realtime.
