Welcome to CSR Nation
Greetings all,
I'm reaching out for advice and help.
As a new scopist I'm caught in the experience snare: how to gain experience when most every ad is looking for scopists with at least one and usually many more years of experience.
I know all of you followed many different paths. For those of you who began as I have coming from other professions/jobs and went the training route which for me was BeST Scoping Techniques and CSR Tech Ed Just for Scopists, how did you break in and gain experience on your way to becoming established in the profession?
Any and all suggestions and offers of help are deeply appreciated.
Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much).
Aloha,
Elise

Have a great day!
I just accepted your request. Thank you!
I sent you a friend request. If you would like to accept it, we can chat about Eclipse & scoping.
Hi Michele,
I'm on Eclipse v7.
Have a happy day.
Aloha. :)
Hi, What software are you on?
Hi Kelli,
I understand about the way you went about it. I'm about to embark on one more training course that will provide the transcript feedback I'm craving at this point.
Each reporter has his/her own way of wanting the finished product, but some things remain the same throughout. Just the way it was working with the late dear husband who was a land surveyor. Each job was different, but the basics remained constant.
I'm not afraid of the work entailed to succeed in this profession.
Have a happy day!
Elise
I will say a plus with training myself is I get the transcript back the way I want it since that's the only way they know how to do it.
Hi Kelli,
Yeah, I do get about the "a lot more work" part. I'll keep at it though. I just keep reminding myself that no matter the area, we were all beginners. I'll get there.
Cheers!
Elise
Hi Glen,
Thanks for the suggestion. We only really have two here in HI and I've tried that route. I'll keep working at it though.
Thanks too for the well wishes!
Aloha,
Elise
Hi, Elise.
You might try approaching a few of your local court reporting agencies to see if they have any openings for a new scopist. It's pretty rare these days for an agency to have in-house scopists and proofreaders, but I hear it still occurs in some areas ... and if nothing else, you'll get to talk to a firm owner or two who might just be able to point you in the right direction.
Good luck!
