I'm sorry. I just got your message. I've been at the NCRA convention. Just got home a couple hours ago and am off to Seattle for another week and a half. I'll be back to work August 6. Probably will be inundated with catchup calls, but call me if you still want to sit out after that. (951) 304-5117 work
P.S. I see that you're from Riverside. I lived in San Diego for 5 years, and just moved away...unfortunately! I attended a school there in San Diego, but for only 3 months...it was a TERRIBLE school and was actually closed down with lawsuits going on!Where is the school you attended?
Hi Stephanie. I read one of your discussions on the main page about having to drop out of school because of transportation problems. Even if you had a reliable car, 60 miles is a lot of driving to/from school! All that time could be spent writing on your machine to make you that much better! I attended both an "on ground" school where I physically attended classes every night for 4.5 hours, and now I am in online courses which I LOVE so much more. Since you are so far along already, I think you would really love online school at this point. I just thought I'd throw that out there for you, because it would be so much better for you to be doing online school right now rather than no school at all! Plus, you might find that you like it even more than traditional. Good luck whatever you decide to do! :)
Hi Stephanie! Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner. Just call me the day before you want to come, and I'll make sure there's somewhere good for you to go. My phone number at work is 951-955-9916. See you soon!
You can come and observe anytime you want. I am in Dept 34 of HOJ in drug court. It's not that exciting, but it will count towards your hours. No problem.
Hi Stephanie! My judge is on vacation for the next two weeks, so I have no idea where I'm going to be. But I'm absolutely sure we can find somewhere for you to go. Are you in the beginning speeds doing observation hours, or are you getting close to taking the CSR?
Did you see this post? It might help with your situation. Sounds dirt cheap to me, too.
Here goes:
I recently found out the first court reporting school I went to (West Valley Community College in Saratoga, CA) now has an online option through Stenograph's Online University. Since it is a community college, I only had to pay $100 to Stenograph for a year of access, plus a meager $48 to the college for a 1.5 unit class. I am using this to supplement the classes I am taking at the school I now attend. (approximately $1,000 a class). I am off for three weeks and didn't want to be off my machine and away from testing that long
Hi Stephanie,
You started school last year in August and you're already at 180? My gosh, girl, I wouldn't be frustrated, but rather happy that you got that far that fast! I started theory in June of last year, have yet to pass a 60 Lit, and am trying to get through 80 JC and QA!
You must be a natural or something! Don't quit now. Seems like things are a lot greener on your side of the fence, broke down car and all, than they are on my side!!! Keep going, girl!
Fridays are fine. No pressure. I know you drive a whole bunch every day, so I'm sure you want to stay close to home. Riverside has it all -- even Federal Court. That might be fun, too!
(I've never even stepped a foot into a Federal Court.)
Hi Stephanie, I saw you left a comment for me on the 18th. I am in drug court in July which is a heavy calendar and is very good experience. If you want to sit out with me give me a call at 951-955-1675 anytime you want to come to Riverside.
I just got your message. I see you're sitting out with Trina on Friday. You can sit out with me any time. I'll be leaving on vacation this next week, but I'll be back July 2nd. If you need to sit out for more hours, let me know. My e-mail address is LJohnsonCSR@msn.com, and my cell is 909-938-7096. Laura
I know he's coming to your school. You are all so lucky!!
I'm sure his new book will be everything in his old book with a lot of additional awesome stuff.
Sounds like we're on the same page. Once you're solid with your theory -- which it sounds like you already are -- start incorporating his shorter writing styles, and you will not regret it, I'm sure.
I might go to your school when he speaks to you. I'm sure Clay will be there. Would love for him to talk to Cypress students, too. I know they would love to have him.
I don't know if you misunderstood me about Kislingbury's theory. I totally recommend it. My son and his girlfriend just qualified this week to take the CSR. It was their first week in qualifying.
My son started on the theory, and his girlfriend started at your school with the theory you learned. She started incorporating the Stenomaster theory after she met my son. She was at about 150.
She has zoomed through since then and absolutely loves it. She's one of my "friends" on here, so if you want to ask her about it, I'm sure she'd share her feelings.
Mark Kislingbury has a new theory book coming out -- bigger and better than the last. I can't wait for it! I'll post if I find out more.
I have only a minute, but you don't have to learn a new theory. It just would be helpful if you incorporate a shorter writing theory into your own.
I'll check back in a day or two when I have more time.
I think the perfect place to start is not coming back for the inflected endings. I started a thread on it. Look under RT writing principles on the main page. I think it's there.

I know I'm a little far away, but the parking is free . . .
Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. Would love to have you!
