yes, when I say "serial port," I mean com port. I sometimes use them interchangably and shouldn't, I guess. Try a different com port other than the one it automatically assigns and see what happens.

Also I would make sure you have the latest software update (hardware update) for your LS.

Don't ask me why or how, but the silly thing is with the LS, even though it says it's on Com 5, for example, you can pick a different com port and it will work. In some instances it will work better. That stalling when on a break goes away - at least it did with me.

For example, mine automatically assigned com 5, I think, and one day I needed to hook up to an attorney and my steno feed showed up on com 5 as well. So I reassigned the LS to Com 7 (in the LS software window), and I realized I had fewer problems. You might try a different serial port. And I no longer have to restart my LS software after a break. I was just restarting my LS but leaving my Eclipse open and it would just keep realtiming in the same file with no interruption in the audio synch file either. Hope that helps.

I just made a chiro appt. for 3:10 today! My massage was yesterday. I get one weekly. I started out with the LS on my lap, but on the small box it came in. That actually felt pretty good to me, but then I didn't want to move my legs at all so I thought of my tripod and tray. That way I think I can wiggle more. Do you have one you can try in case having your feet up doesn't work? I'm tall - almost 5 10, really tall in the saddle! I think we just have to experiment. I'm also used to a shimmed Stentura 6000LX so my touch is light, but I'm really having to concentrate on keeping it even lighter. My sensitivity is now at 300. I'm turning it on to practice in a few minutes. Let me know how the feet thing works. I have the Report-It with those foam feet deals - do you have one sitting around or know of a reporter you can borrow it from near you? That might be perfect for you.

Hi, Lorna,
I also have elbow issues and just received my LightSpeed two days ago. I'm on Eclipse. I know it will be a process to tweak the settings just right, but I'm hoping the lighter touch will help these poor overworked elbows. I've been reporting since Jan. '78. Today I'm going to practice on it by setting it on my tripod tray table. Did you get the tripod?

That's how I was with the accupuncture, too. The machine has really helped me; so I hope the same is true for you!

Have you ever tried accupuncture? I have bilateral carpal tunnel and DeQuervains (have had surgery), and accupuncture definitely helped me for a while. Ask around and find someone good, though. Ice packs should help as well. Has anyone ever suggested you sleep with your arm a certain way, such as straight, net bent or bent not straight? I would think straight, not bent. But other than that, no other suggestions.

My suggestion would be to initially set the key adjustments up so it takes more pressure for the key to register. When I first set mine up and wrote, it looked like someone was dancing on my keys and I wasn't even touching them. Then as you get used to the touch, start adjusting the individual keys down as you need to. That would be my suggestion, as well as spend some time practicing on it before taking it on a job, obviously!

What CAT software are you on? I would try a different seriel port. Can you even open the LS software? If you can open the LS software, you can change the port setting. Then change it in your software to match and try it that way. You can set the machine as a Baran Transcriptor X or a Gemini X. I find I get clearer strokes when I set it to Gemini X. Or try setting up a different user in your CAT software? Will the LS turn on? Also, I would leave it hooked to your computer to charge the battery if you didn't buy the battery charger until the LS light turns green. Other than that, I have no ideas and I would be calling Stenovations.

Hi Lorna:
Man, you make me want to visit that part of the country more than I have ever! I love the Pacific Northwest a lot, and only have been to Washington state once, and Nevada a few times. The rest of the time, southern California a few dozen times. That whole area calls out to me, you know? I used to do landscape and nature photography, 20 yrs ago or so, and got quite good at it, "seeing" light, etc. I would love for you to show me around your area.
Well, another day/week begins in a few hours, and a few things to do, nice meeting you, once again, take care and God bless YOU!

Oh, you think 30 years or so? Oh, my gosh. Did you see that show on TV the other night (I haven't watched the full thing yet, have it on TIVO) Live to be 150? What I saw of it was rather interesting. If you do get up north here, you really do want to get to Napa Valley. My daughter and I actually went to a pastry course at the CIA in St. Helena a little over a year ago. We did NOT want to come home. It's just beautiful over there. I can't complain, though...I live "Just a Bit Above Paradise, California."

Hi Lorna!
TGIF!
I have always wanted to see the San Jose, and more north of that, in the northernmost part of California. Just something I have to do before I croak in 30 or so years, (lol)....Remember that movie with John Travolta called Phenomenon? That was filmed up somewhere near the Napa Valley area, not sure specifically where, tho.
Anyway, have a good weekend, take care and God Bless YOU !

Hi Lorna:
I own a condo in San Diego area, since 1984, and travel there a few times a year to check on it.
I will be relocating at the end of 08, and SoCal is one of my choices.
I don't have CSR lic. # yet, will have to get that then. I'm currently at 150-180 wpm, and serious about getting to the goal line.
hope this helps, let me know

Hi Lorna:
Just a thought,, if I was to relocate to your general area, would you consider bringing me on to your team of CR'ers?
I will be having some options this summer, and I am considering relocation, and your area is one of my faves.
thanks for cnsidering my request.
