I prefer to be in criminal court, hopefully doing prelims. I used to do a lot of jury trials, but, like you, it's just too much! As a pro tem, you end up right in the middle of the thing, and you don't know what's going on, and then you're on call for readback when the jury goes out, which could last for days. Since September, I've just done depos. If given the choice, I always take the doctors. But I love going downtown here and walking around with my wheelie case. It makes me feel like Mary Tyler Moore...I guess I've gotta get one of those hats.. I've tried different writers, but I always go back to my Xscribe Stenoram Ultra. It's got like a car battery in it, and it's so reliable, you can drop it three feet onto cement and it still works (yes, I've done that). You should take that job at Santa Cruz Youth Guidance Center. It's in Felton. Beautiful up there, very easy job, nice people, etc. and 2 1/2 days a week with all the benefits. I do believe it's the best job in the world. But I don't know if it's still open.

How can you be allergic to redwood and living there? I just saw your post. You posted on your page instead of mine - it happens!!

That's what I want to know. I've been here almost nine years and found out about my allergy three years ago, but it's way worse now. I'd really like to move, but where to????

Oh, wow, court work is so hard! Too long of a day for me. I can't even do all-day depos anymore. I'm hoping the new Revolution writer will help me out. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who has one. I'm also checking up on Rhoda's posts here. I have a super small firm with my brother and sister: Griffin Court Reporting.

No, wait, I mean about 700 a year were passing. maybe close to 800. So, I figure about half of those had fallen by the wayside a long time ago, and of those left, probably a third ended up elsewhere, a lot are disabled, only did depos, retired at 50, or went on to other careers, but there's still going to be a good number who'll retire soon. So, I guess it will be easy for the State to vacate 20% of the officials, and even without the budget cut, it would have probably happened anyway.

How can you be allergic to redwood and living there?

Katy, Sure, send it to me at jenlug@pacbell.net when you get a chance. I hope you were staying down here somewhere when you were reporting last August. If you're in SF, that's quite a drive! Are you working for a particular firm these days in SF?

Katy, No, I haven't seen anything. I try and read stuff like that when I'm feeling really peppy - which hasn't been lately with my redwood allergies so bad. Don't keep me hanging about your peanut butter special, though, just because I'm not up on CR politics.

Just make sure you find a man who likes it! My mom's favorite sandwich is sliced onion and peanut butter with a squirt of lemon. Have you ever thought of adding a little peanut butter to that handful of squish? Sounds good to me!

Katy, You are too funny, but you'll get a kick out of this. Last night I plopped myself on my recliner, remote in hand and consumed two - yes - two bowls of ice cream and a huge bowl of popcorn. My husband was out and I was taking advantage. I actually was so rude as to eat the last of the ice cream. Now, as for the appropriate viewing content, can you believe I watched the movie Hard Day's Night?? I had never seen it before. So I think we agree totally on what it means to vegitate. And if I had any pets, we know where they'd be!

Please do some vegitating for me, won't you???

Katy, Here's some directions I gave to Sherry Glascock the other day. I need to check out her page to see if she's had time to fix up her page yet.

First find a small pic somewhere. I went on a fabric website and did a print screen then I shrank it. If you don't know how to shrink something, email it to me at jenlug@pacbell.net and I can.

So take that small pic and put it someplace where you can fetch it easily. Then the next time you're in your page here, click on "edit page appearance," then click halfway down to "page" and in the "middle" click on the box on the right, click on "Upload an image from your computer" click tile, and browse to your pic. Then click save and see what happens! I'd so much rather change my page's background than finish up a transcript!

Hope it works for you, Jenny

Katy,

Yes, this is how it goes here - just adding comments back and forth. I'll "comment" you back some directions on how to pretty up your page in about an hour.

Later, Jenny
