......When an attorney (or anybody) says 212 instead of 2012?  I know there was an article in the JCR about it.  Can anyone refer me to that article by name and month?

Thanks

I do 2'12, but I have no clue about the article you're looking for.

I would just put 2012.  It reads better.

I do 2012.  They are mispronouncing it, that's all.  Would you write "ax" for ask?  If not, I would make it 2012.  2'12 looks more like Feb. of '12, IMO.

I'm on the 2012 train.

MA

And we're leaving the station....

I do 2'12.  They're not mispronouncing it.  I think they're just choosing to drop out one of the zeros.  I had a witness doing 2'09.  And the attorney called him on it.  And he did it throughout the transcript.

Waving at you from the station.

<Waving back>  I'm curious to get atty reaction from reading a transcript that has 2'12 in it.  If I ever hear it, I am going to ask them about it.

I agree that they're not mispronouncing it.  Just like they're not mispronouncing '09, '10, '11, '12.  You don't automatically make those 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, do you?

I had a realtime job with three screens going where one of the attorneys called the witness on it too.  Qing attorney wasn't reading his screen but was listening.  Other counsel were also not watching their screen.  But as soon as Qing attorney called him on it -- I think it was something like, When you say two oh nine, do you mean February '09 or 2009? -- all other counsel looked at their screens to see what the heck he was talking about.  It would have been rather embarrassing if I had fixed it.  (And I have enough real misstrokes in my realtime that I don't need to embarrass myself by fixing one of their silly gaffes.)

And, by the way, that realtime job was the first depo in a case for my client.  The Qing atty that called the witness on the date was not my client.  But he did mention to me how he like my output and I ended up doing all of his depos on the case too.  Kept me quite busy for about four months, O&3, 3 screens, 3 roughs, some of them expedites.

I don't do RT very often; but when I do, this is a good example of why I always set my software to words only during RT.  Sooooooooooo much stress off of me for numbers--I DON'T NEED THAT EXTRA STRESS--just comes up two twelve or twenty twelve or two thousand twelve or two thousand and twelve or twelve.  Ahhhhhhhhh.  No complaints.  Guess I have no prob doing this--or would even think twice about it or even think of it at all--because for a couple of years in CR school, I proofed for two firm owners, both of whom never put a numeral in any transcript.

For my final transcript, it'd be 2'12 or 2012 or 2012 or 2012 or '12.
