Can you post the sentence where this word is used for more context?

I've seen m-a-s-k used as part of a printing layout process, not as in covering something up but more setting up a title.  Can't point you to a reference, though.

Listen...do you hear a K?

Not sure if m-a-s-t is a term, but I know "masthead" is, so listen for a T too.

Q Sir, when was his name placed on the *mass?
A On the outside of the office?
Q Yes.

I listened for the k and a t can't hear it.

Q Sir, when was his name placed on the *mass?
A On the outside of the office?
Q Yes.

it was used several other times as indicated below

Q Sir, isn't it true that that *mass was changed in 2010?
A The *mass was changed -- I don't remember the last time it was changed.
Q Isn't it true the *mass was changed to add Mr. Barnwell's name in 2010?
A I don't recall when Mr. Barnwell's name was added to the *mass.  I honestly don't recall.  I know that there have been lawyers that have come and left, and we have changed it since -- at some point to remove those who have left, but I don't remember the last time we changed it.

I agree with the masthead comment...I'd say that is correct.
