How important is it to go to a school that is NCRA approved. I have found 2 in my area. I plan on studying in Florida and working in California.

Any help would be great! Thanks

Keep in mind, Florida has no court reporter requirements. MEANING - all the school wants to do is process you, so they have room to get more students in the program. I moved to Tampa in1981. I had just finished my degree in Michigan and got my RPR even before I graduated.

There were so many "court reporters" here in Tampa, I didn't get a good job. There were two major court reporter firm "owners" hiring the young pretty girls, and those girls were hired for their looks, youth, stupidity (and you get the idea). I know that for fact.

If you're going to work in California, then you should take your program in California, or Texas, or Washington. Take your program where that state has strong requirements for court reporting. That way, you know you're getting a good program.

It doesn't appear to be the situation now, but there was a time in Tampa/St. Pete there were 13 court reporting schools (opened by court reporters) - and they were pushing them through at 18 months. That should tell you what the quality of the programs were.
