Anyone know about the administrator and security settings for Windows 7?  I am looking everywhere and can't seem to get a clear understanding of how to change them.  I know Stenograph likes us to have Catalyst as the administrator, but I don't.  I've got these little padlocks on some of my backed up files on the C drive that I can't access after I backed them up.  Poking around tells me I don't have permission to access them.  Anyway, it's not a Cat issue, it's an administrator issue.  Then I poked around on my desktop and my other Win 7 laptop and I have some other files with little padlocks on the file folders in different places..........any help appreciated!

Never heard of Catalyst being the administrator and not familiar with those padlock icons you're seeing.  I've got W7, too.  Let us know what you learn.

Perhaps this will help.   Basically you have to change the administrator to you, I think.

Martha,

I have that link.  I talked to Stenograph support.  They don't know why the padlocks were on the Cat files, but I did not have Case Cat set to run as administrator.  Once I changed that, the padlocks went away on the backed up files.  Stenograph told me that when Catalyst is not set to run as administrator, you can have weird problems.  I'm still "the administrator" but Catalyst can also has to run as administrator or there can be problems.

I will bet that Catalyst is not an administrator on my machine, Kerry.  How do I confirm that?

Right click on the Catalyst icon and see if "run as administrator" is on the list on the pop up window.  That's one way.  I think run as administrator won't be on the list of things above "properties" if it's not running that way.

Kerry,

In Manage Jobs, right-clicking on the Catalyst icon in the upper left corner does not give me any "run as administrator" option or properties either.   Where else to try??

Marge

It's not an option.  There's a list of topics when you right click on the icon:

Troubleshoot

Open File

Run as administrator

Pin to taskbar

all the way down to the last one:

Properties

Are you running Windows 7?  It's not the same in XP and I don't know about

Windows 8.

I'm using W7.  Where exactly are you finding that icon to right-click on?
