Hi all. I've had my software for some time. I've taken the CAT class my school gives, and it didn't go beyond the very basics. I'm wondering if it's worth the $ to get private instruction. I honestly don't feel proficient at all. I'd love any and all input. Thanks!

When I bought my software it included one day of free training with a certified trainer through CaseCatalyst. Did you go through that already or just training through your school? Do you have the professional software or student software? I've had my software for four years and I still don't know all the short cuts.
Hi Kyla!!! It's me Alexis. I would love to talk to you about the software. I'm learning my CaseCat by baby steps and would be happy to get together with you and share my knowledge. Do you have Trevor's cell #? If not, send me your email and I will get my personal # to you and we'll set up a date. Sound good? Would love to see you too.

BTW - Oh, did I mention, there's NO CHARGE!!! ; P
Hey Kyla. Have you used the CBT yet in Case CATalyst? That's a great way to reinforce what you've learned, plus give you some addition skills. Also, when you purchased your software, should have come with a certificate good for a certain amount of training with a Stenograph Certified Independent Training Agent. Stenograph also has self-paced Case CATalyst courses that could help you learn the advanced skills you want to learn.

I'm a certified trainer with Stenograph and I'd be willing to answer any questions you may have -- and show you a few things -- without charge. Drop me a line and we could work something out.

Also, private training is only worth the money, if you have goals in mind. The worst thing to do is go to a trainer and say, "train me," without any sort of real goal in mind. I tell people when they schedule an appointment with me to come up with the top five things they want to learn and then we build from there if needed.
Hi Anthony.

Would you mind if I take advantage of your expertise with Case Catalyst some time in the future? I have lots of questions, but I must warn you, I am a bit of a challenge when it comes to computers. So if you're up for a challenge, I'm your gal!!! ; p
Alexis hit me up anytime, I'm more than glad to help. Private message me and I'll give the phone number to the office and my private email so you can question me more easily. And as far as challenges go -- Bring it on!
Hi Kyla: Being a former CAT trainer, I would definitely recommend you get private instruction because of all the tips and tricks you can learn that will speed up your production time and build your confidence as well. The whole point of CAT software is to increase our productivity so we can get the work out faster. So that's my two bits of advice. I'm a court reporter as well, so I know how it helps. Shirley
Hi. Kyla, I'd love to help you, but I'm just a scopist and all I did was take the little tutorial you get with the start up software and that was enough for me, but again, I just do editing. Sorry I can't be more informative. And there is still probably a lot of stuff that I don't know... that I don't know, I don't know. If you know what I'm saying.
Thank you all so much for replying!
I am still on the student version of CaseCAT, and I don't recall ever receiving a free day of training.

Alexis: You are such a doll! I'd love to get together and learn from you! I do have Trevor's cell number. I'll send him a text and ask him to pass my number on to you. Gosh, I think it would be awesome to have a get together with you and Trevor and some of the folks from Humphreys. Maybe we could try to plan something??????

So how does this sound for a plan? First, I will revisit the CBT. That way, as Anthony suggested, I'll come away with some real questions and a better idea of what exactly I need to learn. I guess I'd better be honest and admit that after the CAT class at school, I just put off using the software since I didn't feel I came away from that class any better equipped to actually start taking advantage of the software. Once I complete that, I will gladly take you up on your offers to help me with some of the questions I have. Then, from there, I'll look into personal instruction from a trainer for the more in-depth stuff.

Thank you all again for all the advice!
I'll be calling you soon!!!
