I know, I know. VERY light reading. I love to read books that are going to be made into movies because we all know the book version is always better (almost always).

Don't get me wrong, this book definitely had a Real Housewives element to it, but I think it was intentional and I actually kind of liked it.  The book is very well written, and even though some things are a bit predictable, it still managed to keep me entertained. There are two sequels, and I can't wait to read them. Sometimes it's nice to have some light fiction to break up the truly horrible stuff we have to read/hear at our jobs on a daily basis.

Quick synopsis: Nick and Rachel are college professors living together in New York. Nick's best friend is getting married in Singapore over the summer, so he invites Rachel to spend the summer with him overseas, meeting his entire family for the first time. What Rachel doesn't know is that Nick is the heir to a huge family fortune spanning several generations, and is viewed as quite the catch by all the single women in Singapore. Light read, but well worth the amount of time it took.

If you read it, what did you think?

Just placed a hold with my library for the ebook. #442 of 442 holds...I'll get back to you!

Just finished it the other day. It made me want to visit Singapore, but maybe not in the summer because I couldn't deal with the heat. I did find it a bit annoying to constantly have to reference the translations in the footnotes to understand what was being said, and I also had trouble keeping up with all the characters. A family tree would have been helpful! Overall, I liked Rachel and Nick and will finish the trilogy, but it's not something I will likely reread in the future.

I actually listened to the audiobook. I loved hearing all the different voices and accents. The cattiness was my low-key favorite. I need to listen to the sequels. It makes cleaning house go much faster!
