So if a deponent keeps saying "cuz," is it " 'cuz" (there's an apostrophe in there) or "cuz" or do you just put in "because"?

The correct word should be 'cause, with an apostrophe in front of it, to indicate that it's an abbreviated form of "because," cuz "cuz" is not really a word. :)

For example: "I tripped and fell on the sidewalk 'cause there was a hole in the ground."
'cause.
