Hi all!!!

I'm a fairly new reporter, almost a year, living in Southern California. I have been contemplating buying cables for real time so that attorneys can hook up. However, as I ask around, veteran reporters and agencies, I am noticing that real time is rarely requested in depos. I can understand in court since you are connected with the judge. So my question is, is it worth my investment to purchase the cables?

If you want to last in this business, Nancy, you need to make yourself the best you can be and that includes doing realtime any time it's requested. Even if the job is not RT, when I get there and they ask for it, I can provide it. Today, I got a request to do realtime streaming over the Internet. An attorney that was not at the deposition wanted to see the transcript. I had him online and hooked up within minutes. That's, by the way, with not knowing or my agency knowing that was a request. Be prepared for anything and be able to provide it, my dear. That's the only way we're going to be able to last in this business with all the ER that's taking our jobs daily.
