I had a wonderful old workhouse, HP LaserJet 3, for about 15 years. It finally bit the dust and I went out and purchased a brand new HP, but I didn't like it and returned it. Then I went online and found a used, reconditioned LaserJet 5 for about $200 which I had shipped to me from the Midwest, so I figure I'm back in business again for another 15 years!
Are you looking for an all-in-one? Do you do a lot of printing and you need a workhorse?
I have an hp all-in-one which is good for the occasional printing, but if you are printing out a lot of transcript pages then you probably need a dedicated printer, i.e., faster printer. I have a Brother, and it's pretty good.
Are you looking for a laser printer or inkjet?
It all depends on what you want and need. That being said, I think Brother printers are good quality as well.
I guess the theme here is that you can't go wrong with HP. I have the HP Officejet 7310 All-in-One color printer, and although it's a good model, the printing speed isn't there. You bring up a good point, Jeanese, about the printer cartridges...toner or cartridges? Which is more economical? And, you're right, don't need color, so probably can save a lot there. Again, Jeanese, I will check out the model you recently purchased. Anyway, thanks to both of you for the input!
I have always purchased HP LaserJet printers. I like the HP LastJet 1320. It only prints in black and no color.
It cost about 300 bucks a few years ago, and I have not had any problems with it. I do not print as often today as I used to, though.
One thing I do not like about it, compared to my older HP LaserJet 4000, is that this HP LaserJet 1320 has a smaller paper tray, only holding one-half a ream of paper, as opposed to the whole ream. It is a little inconvenient at times, but I've learned to live with it. For cost, dependability, and quality, I like it!
