Olivia, congratulations! I've been freelancing for over 20 years, but my first 14 years were as an official in a state court ... I was ready for anything and afraid of nothing after that. Officialships have benefits, 401(k)s, regular paychecks, et cetera. It's not for everyone, but it is an option that I think I'd do again if I were starting over. My very best to you - may you love this profession as I have!

Congratulations! I was an independent reporter for 20 years. Pick your own jobs, hours, etc. Send resumes to all depo agencies and courthouses that you can. You'll be as busy as you want.

Congratulations, Olivia. As Janet said, start by contacting EVERY agency in and around the area you live in. Offer to sit in on depos (if they allow that), so that you get a feel of what it's like to report a depo.

Also, contact all of the courts in your area, even the Federal courts, to see if they are hiring, when they have a test coming up, etc. And also ask them if you can sit in on court proceedings. That is usually up to the individual reporter, but may vary, depending on where you are.

Again, congratulations, and may you have a successful career as a Reporter.

Congratulations, Olivia! You must be so excited.

I'd contact every agency in your area, see if they'll meet with you and guide you.

Janet
