I'm just wondering, do you folks use automatic indexing?
I do and I love it.

I didn't have a trainer help me. I simply printed out the Case study guide on setting up indexing and went through by myself page by page setting up their example, and then incorporating all that into my firm's style. It took about two hours to get a functional index up, but since then it's saved SO many hours!

This is what I'm going to have to do for now, too, Christi. I simply can't afford to pay a trainer for a full-on training session and I can't find a single Case class anywhere within a reasonable driving distance either.  I'm going to go through the Case desktop training guide some time in the next couple of days. It hadn't even occurred to me that the instructions for indexing would be in there, but that's because I've been such a scatterbrain lately.

I do have a question about using the index function in general, though. As a scopist, does my reporter have to have the index-formatting stuff set up on her end in order for me to be able to apply the function on my end or can I just set it up on my end, create the indexes per job, and then when I send the file back to her, the indexes will be in place?

I'm loving this thread!

Christina,

Are you a scopist or a reporter?

I'm happy to send you my index template if that would help you.

It's really not hard.  The hard part is getting the template together.

It saves hours of time.

I love automatic indexing...wouldn't know how to get along without it!!
The auto index is best set up by a trainer, then they can walk you through how to mark, build an index. After that you will start to understand the hidden codes and such. Make it easy on yourself!
I agree with Heidi, especially if you are a busy reporter. I think I took a stab at it myself one time and got frustrated and gave up until I found Larry. But if you are one of those people that have the skill, go for it.

I definitely am going to need the help. I have done the study guide and the wizard and I can get my examinations by to line up nice, but that is all!!! I definitely want to see if I can get an online trainer to help or I'll go make an appointment with the local trainer in my area. She seems pretty busy, though, and sometimes hard to get in with.
Allison,
One of the reasons I like Larry as a trainer so much is b/c he is a court reporter and he understands what we need as working reporters. He has that insight because he's done it too.
Let me know what happens.
I'm interested.

Yes, I couldn't go without it!! It takes 2 minutes to fix my index page the way I want it. Awesome feature ;)
I do and I love it. I used their template. It took a couple tries of a couple hours each to wrap my mind around it. But it's wonderful! It would be worth it to pay someone to do it for you.
no, i don't.  just haven't gotten around to it.  i love the "fields" option though.  and indexing will take more time than i have right now.
Lucy,
Believe me, it would be worth your money to have someone (a trainer) get you set up with automatic indexing. If you don't have time, pay them and you will make the money back in no time. You'll LOVE it. i guarantee it. I would NEVER go back to doing it the old way.
