This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.

I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.

Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Dang, Christy, you were right.  I missed the Power Management under Novatel Wireless Modem Properties.  I unchecked that puppy and I'll see what happens.

Oops.  Sprint.  I do that EVERY time!

Exactly why I spend $60 a month on the Spring wifi.  Don't like spending the dough but I always have my internet going.  :0)  You'll love it.

The problem is you cannot always rely on the fact these offices will have that capability.  Some of the even larger firms won't let you have access to their Internet because of security reasons.

I hope this Mi-Fi works or I'm sending it back.

yes, I was told the same thing.  You need the stronger signal of the wifi and the battery issue.  but if you can, always use a wired connection with the ethernet cable at a depo if you're sending files like using Dropbox to send the audio.  It will always be more reliable and faster.

I just went to Verizon and got the Mi-Fi as I learned about here.  The guy I talked to said using the iPhone for the hot spot is not a good idea; uses up a lot of battery and is not a consistent, stable Internet device.

Never know, though, Judy, you may not have a problem.  I just thought I would ask him if maybe I should go that option and he said the Mi-Fi was a better option.  Can't believe I waited this long.

I've checked that.  It doesn't hurt to check again, though.

When I get to my job and set up I'll post how to turn off power management on your usb ports. Maybe that's what you did but that usually fixes this problem that a lot of people have with ports going into standby mode when not active for however many minutes.

Kelli, I actually waited what seemed like forever to be able to upgrade this last weekend.  My phone was ready to upgrade over a year ago, but I was waiting for my aircard's contract to finish.  Once I had no contracts, I could buy what I wanted to buy.  But now I start the contract cycle all over again.  What joy.

I've been using my aircard and Dropbox during depos for at least the past year and have not had any issues with files transferring during the proceedings.  I've used the setup with, I think, four different scopists and have not had any issues.

Christy, I had my writer/laptop hooked up via Bluetooth, but it would lose the connection during long recesses, then I'd have to reboot the entire system.  That happened exactly twice and I went racing back to my trusty cable.  I checked everything under Device Manager and could not find a reason why it would shut down my Bluetooth connection.  Any and all thoughts are greatly appreciated.

It's nice to hear somebody else is having success with the octopus hub.
