Welcome to CSR Nation
This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.
I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.
Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Well, I gave two jobs, V5 jobs, to a scopist to edit - she's new to V5 too - and I got the jobs back and they were not even touched by a scopist. She says she made all the changes and filled in exhibit descriptions, but when I get the job back, it's blank. Not quite sure what that's all about.
Thanks so much for the info on 5.0.0.18. Sounds like EXACTLY what I need.
That's good advice. I've gone there and not known where to begin finding stuff about V5. Tad bit overwhelming trying to find what you're looking for.
Kelli, I always advise people to back up their settings before updating, but it shouldn't change anything. I've been working in 5.0.0.18 without a problem.
Regarding the Advantage site, I think I have some good advice for everyone. When you get in the forums, click on recent posts. That way you will only get the latest post from every group. I've been doing that for years. There's so much good info to be found in the development forum, and you can just skip over those posts that don't interest you.
If I do the update to 18, will it change my keyboard settings again? I finally got them back the way I want them.
Jenny's post about how to fix the conflict resolution is one of the reasons I started this group. It seems all the really good info is found in Eclipse's Development forum, which I don't frequent because I prefer to stick with the regular released version.
Somehow important info like this never makes its way to the regular Eclipse forum.
So us sharing here with each other can be a way to get the word out to users who otherwise would never know.
Also same is true for notice of the new .18 update.....notification of that never hit the regular Eclipse forum.
Thanks, Jenny, for the nudge to update to 5.0.0.18 (available on Nov 2). I remember, too, that's the update Laura told us about on Nov. 2. Will do!
And that's great info from Jeremy on the conflicts!
Get in the User Settings/Programming tab and modify the Auto-Brief Steno Theory.
I don't want any double strokes, so I have -
That's a minus sign and a spacebar space.
Do a search in the V5 manual if you are confused. All will be made clear.
How do I - the double strokes? I would love just one stroke suggestions instead of two. Not sure how to set that up.
Jeremy fixed the conflict issue a while back. Everyone really should update to the latest version which is 5.0.0.18.
A paste of his post:
I just discovered that the wordpart.dat file that's used for analyzing text for selecting conflicts that's being shipped on the version 5 DVDs contains detailed grammatical information ... for French. Ack!
That must have gotten mixed up in the process of implementing all of Keith Vincent's improvements for the French language processing. He's modified that file considerably, but it's only supposed to go out that way for users transcribing in French.
If you've been having problems with conflicts not coming up correctly in V5, I'm guessing that's your problem. I'll get the DVD fixed, but in the meantime, here's how you can fix it right now yourself:
Go into Windows explorer and go to Program Files\Advantage Software\Eclipse
Delete the Wordpart.dat file.
make a Copy of the English.dat file.
Rename that copy to wordpart.dat.
Now when you run Eclipse the conflict resolution should work a lot better.
Jeremy
