Eclipse Version 5 Users

This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.

I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.

Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

If anyone is really interested in using the auto briefs macros, go to the new discussion here called Auto-Brief Issues in Version 5.  there are a few other things you need in your main dictionary and metadictionary which is all explained in the PDF I attached.

thanks, Jenny

For anyone who's interested, I just called support, and the simple answer to my question is that requesting briefs can be done two ways.

If you want to request briefs using your writer, you need Keith's realtime editing kit and use the macros he has in there.

You can also request a suggestion from your realtime screen by marking the words and hitting Control D.

Question for anyone on Suggestions in AutoBrief.....is that the number of suggestions you want Eclipse to give you total for all the briefs it thinks you might like?  Or the number of suggestions for each brief it thinks you might need?

Amanda, I used Stenolink years ago in a setting where the reporter was in the courtroom and I was in the jury room editing for her.

It was just a basic StenoLink setup.  It was very new then and very few tech support people were versed in it and it took a lot of effort on my part getting the info.

I'm sure they're much more into it now as more people are asking for it.

I sure would like to see a comparison chart showing the pros and cons, similarities and differences of StenoLink versus Teleview versus Bridge.  There almost too many things to choose from.  It gets daunting.

Jenny, super kewl screen shot.....my, you are addicted!

Baby step question here.  I've never requested an AutoBrief before.  How is that done.  You said it's a macro.  Does that mean it's a macro on your compute keyboard or a macro on your writer?

Please go in baby steps for me, okay?

Thanks, Jenny.  This is something I think that once I use it, I will understand more what you are talking about.  I always use the AB feature as of now with V4 and love it.  Cannot imagine not using it, so I'll just play with it today and see how this all works and tweak it as I go.

Right now I feel a little lost, I must admit.

I was going to use V5 for the first time tomorrow on my job, so I will play with it then.  This is all new, never given the option on these settings before.  Thanks for your help.

Kelli, are you using the auto brief request macros?  If so, that is what the requests are.  I use so many of those that I don't want very many reminder briefs taking up my space.  I am constantly adding one-stroke briefs to my dictionary that I have not learned yet, and if I put reminders to one, I would fill up my space too quickly.

I am so addicted to requesting auto briefs that I have purchased a separate mini monitor for mine.  Here's a picture:

Figuring out the proper AB numbers is a trial and error deal.  Everyone has different needs and different screen sizes.  What I recommend you do is put in some numbers and then do a virtual retranslation making sure you give a different text name so you don't overwrite anything.  Take a look at what the ABs look like as the job quickly translates.  I believe you can pause the translation and change the AB numbers, but I'm not positive.

I have reminders set on 3 so that there's probably 3 old briefs that I've made up that I've forgotten and it will remind me of those if I'm writing a word out the long way.  I don't ever ask for it to give me a brief, so I leave Requests on 0, although I'm sure I need to use that one, so I might change it to 1.  On my to-do list.

Then Suggestions I have set to 10.  If you're using the pop-up window for briefs and you have it set to 20, then they're going to start running off the screen or taking up too much real estate on your screen and you won't be able to see all 20.  So put this at a # that you'll be able to see all suggestions when there's 10 or however many up there.  If you use the Info Bar, then make sure all of your Reminders, Requests and Suggestions will fit or it does you no good.  Just play with it and see what works for you.  Some people might only like 2, 2 and 5.  ???

Thank you, Christy.  How about the "Requests" and "Suggestions"?  What should those be on?
