    Thanks Christina!

  • Cathy Logan

Christina and Lisa, one more thing on PDF.

If you use the Batch icon at the bottom, or Quick keys, you can set it to print condensed, word index, and transcript all at once in PDF.  This might be quicker in some instance.

  • Cathy Logan

If anyone needs help or has questions regarding the Winner software or Impression writer, please feel free to ask your questions here. I will be monitoring this area and will respond to any questions you have each day in the morning.

I hope all you ProCAT users will join me here.

    Thanks,
    Cathy Logan

  • Rosie Samples

Cathy, great to know.  Thanks!! :)

  • Lisa Berryhill

Silly question - I'm not sure I'm doing it right. What's the best way to make a backup copy of my dictionary?

  • Cathy Logan

Hey, Lisa.  I would go to archive wizard.  On the second screen, select backup personal dictionary.  Then follow the prompts.  You can then at the end set it to save to your desktop, jump drive (by using browse button), or burn to CD-write folder.

If you are getting an error message, I need to know how you are doing it and what the message says.

I'm on the latest version of ProCat -- 12.0.38.  I'm using a Diamante writer.  Need help with realtime.  In the middle of trial, hooked up to realtime, if I have to unhook my writer from my computer to go to sidebar, I can't come back and plug the writer into the computer and have the realtime pick up from where I left off.  I have to close the file, turn off the writer and start a new file.  With my old Stylus machine I could just unplug the writer, do what I had to do, come back, plug it back in and everything worked fine.  I can suspend realtime with a keyboard command on my writer, but when I need to restart it by giving it the same command, it won't restart.  Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Lisa Berryhill

Thanks, Cathy re the dictionary backup. I got it figured out. I really appreciate your response though.

  • Cathy Logan

Caryn, that is controlled by your writer.  ProCAT writers allow you to suspend and reconnect without a problem.  Same with our new Impression writer.  The bluetooth will even go into an automatic hold if you go outside the distance of bluetooth.  You might want to pose this question to any Diamante users.

  • Cathy Logan

I don't want to turn this into a sales pitch, however, if any of you are thinking about a new writer, now might be the time.  ProCAT is offering $1200 off with a trade-in of any old writer.  So the Impression is now $4095 and it includes bluetooth and wide keys, if needed.

  • Christina

Congrats on your new Impression. Let us know how it goes.
  • Cathy Logan

    Chris:

The audio Loop back works really well.  You will want to set that under Options area of the machine.  Also, your Martel mic should work great.  Please if I can help you with anything, don't forget to email me or call.

    Cathy

  • Kelli Combs (admin)

I took the Impression out of the box and had tech support set it up and I took it on a job the next day and never looked back.  Tossed my two Diamantes in the corner.  You'll love it.  You should toss your Martel Microphone to the curb too.  What a POS, if you ask me.

  • Lisa Berryhill

Can anyone tell me how to save my dictionary to Dropbox?TIA!

  • Christina

Lisa, go to the Winner main page and click on the Archive and Retrieval Wizard.  Follow the prompts for backing up your personal dictionary.  When you get to Select File Name and Folder, click on Browse to find your Dropbox folder and then click Okay.  You should have a Dropbox folder on your computer if you are using their service.  Hope that helps.

  • Lisa Berryhill

    Thank you Christina!

  • Lisa Berryhill

I'm finally taking the big step to RT. Can anyone tell me how to add prefixes/suffixes to my dictionary?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Lisa

  • Christina

Lisa, in the Winner Users Reference Guide, there is a complete list of prefixes and suffixes, and it explains how to enter them.  Suffixes are entered differently than the prefixes because the software does its own morphological analysis, i.e. if you enter the suffix -ability, the English would read [m:ability].  So later on when you're writing, if you stroked the suffix -ability for a word that actually has -ibility as its suffix, the software puts the correct suffix.  There is no morphological analysis for prefixes so you just put the steno ex. PR*E for the prefix "pre," and the English would be pre~.  Look through the users manual.  There is a ton of great information.  Also, if you get a chance go to one of ProCAT's advanced training sessions, if you haven't already.  I try to go every year and always learn something from it.  Hope this helps.

  • Lisa Berryhill

Thanks Christina, I'm definitely going to go to one of the training seminars when it's closer to home (and figure out where my user's reference guide is.) I appreciate your help and have a wonderful night.  Lisa

  • Christina

Lisa, you can log into the ProCAT users reference center and download the latest version of the manual if you can't find yours, just FYI.  Have a great night as well.  Glad I could help.  C.

  • Lisa Berryhill

How do I get my timestamps to print military?

  • Christina

While in the Editor with your transcript, do CTL-E and go to the Margins tab.  Time stamp properties is on the lower right side.  You can pick the 24-clock with hours, minutes, and seconds or just hours and minutes.  You can also pick the frequency of the time stamps there was well.

  • Lisa Berryhill

Thank you, Christina! Have a great night.

  • Lisa Berryhill

I have my lines per page set at 25 but I'm still only getting 24. Does anyone know how to fix this?  I was messing with the footer but then I took the footer out and it's still giving me 24

  • Lisa Berryhill

I can't get my time stamps to show up on my ASCII. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Lisa Berryhill

Went on a video depo with the Impression and accidently changed the hour when syncing with the videographer. Does anyone know if there any way to change it back after the fact?

  • Donna Leigh Scott

The time on my impression is off too. Not sure how to change it.
  • Lisa Berryhill

Anyone with the Impression ever have any audio issues?

  • Lisa Berryhill

I'm trying to suppress the page number on the certificate page. Does anyone know how to do that?  TIA

  • Rosie Samples

Do a new section break on the page before, go to certificate page, edit header, Control E (page setup), check the clear the header and OK. That should do it (I could it in my sleep). How have you been doing it all along? I know someone, not on Procat, who whites-off the page number. We do what we have to do, I guess. lol
  • Lisa Berryhill

Thanks, Rosie. I had to call support, but evidently you have to go into Edit page Headers and then press the space bar.

  • Christina

Chris, did they call you back?  Are you calling 800.966.1221?  That's the number I call and have always had someone call me back in a timely manner.  Also, what kind of service contract do you have?  I only have the business hours plan so would not expect any help at times other than those.  There's a 24-hour plan and an extended plan, which is 9 am - 9 pm, as well as the business hours plan.

I have an Impression writer that I bought about three years ago and I do like the writer. I talked a friend into buying the new Impression this year. Well, apparently there have been some tweaks and things are not the same. I even tried to write on the writer and the keys are way too close together, which makes you have more mistakes. I was thinking of buying it from her because I felt so bad, but my writing was terrible on the new machine. Procat has blocked me from posting any feedback about their writers; guess they only want positive reviews. Here is my friend's post to me today about the new Impression, which I feel so bad:

I have decided to sell my writer. I just can't even bring myself to work on it. It's just crazy. I started to set it up the other day after the company tweaked it for me, and as soon as I started to play with it, I just couldn't do it. I don't want the learning curve. My wrist still bothers me from the first time I wrote on it for those two days. I really don't want to put the time in on it. I probably should, but I have this mental block about it. I don't like how the screen doesn't drop down, I don't like how I just don't feel I can ask questions to the company about it because I always have to go through the lady that answers the phone who was down right nasty to my in an email, and I just have such a bad taste in my mouth over everything that went on with this writer Anyhow, just wanted your input on ways to sell it. I noticed on Ebay they sell writers, so will probably post there. Do you have any other suggestions. It is brand new, I wrote on it twice (oh, yeah, you wrote on it once too).

Lori, sales rep, reached out the other day in an email and asked me how it was going and if I was using the machine. I told her no, that I wasn't going to use it and did she have any suggestions on selling it. Hmm, never heard back from her again. I bet her nasty boss told her to not reply back and just leave it alone. Not sure why she didn't get back to me, really, but expected her to reply if only to say sorry to hear that and I really can't advise you on selling or some such thing, but anyhow...

  • Donna Leigh Scott

So sorry to hear that. I got my Impression last year in January and it's a dream. No problems with it at all. In fact, yesterday I was so glad I had it because my laptop would not record so I used the writer's recorder and tech walked me through dumping the job after he took control of my laptop to see what happened to my sound. I've dealt with ProCat for probably 20 years and have always had excellent customer service and been treated very well. In fact, they have bent over backwards for me and often at no charge. I'm not sure how you can build a writer that has keys closer together than normal. Mine seems the same as my Flash as far as spacing of keys but with a lighter and easier touch. Anyway, so sorry to hear of someone having a bad experience.
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

ProCat blocked me from posting on their page; they only want positive feedback and no negative comments apparently.

  • Heather Roseman

    Hi all!
Interested in hearing what brands of laptops some ProCat users have. Looking to purchase the new Xpression and need a new laptop. I've bought Toshiba the last two times, but I'm looking for other ideas. Thanks!
  • Christina

    Hi, Heather.

I have only used Toshiba laptops.  I was thinking of going with another brand and was looking at a Lenovo.  But then I saw on a Facebook group that people were complaining of all the issues they have had with Lenovos.  Of course, there are always those who say they swear by them.  I've heard that Asus laptops are good from some people.  I feel rather gun-shy to even look at another brand to be honest. Of course, without the Satellite option on Toshiba, the laptop that has the specs I want is over $1300.  Not exactly what I want to pay.  If you get another brand, please comment again about what you got and how you like it.

  • Ciara

Hi there. I have used Toshibas as well and never have any issues. My friend uses an HP and a desktop her boyfriend made. She seems to have a lot of issues with the software freezing up.

  • Heather Roseman

You're having the same problems I am having then. Toshiba seems to be tough to find these days too, in my opinion. I've heard the same about Asus. I've also heard that HP laptops haven't worked well in general. I'm stuck. And I don't want to spend $1300! Let ya know if I find something!
  • Heather Roseman

Also...does anyone have a touchscreen? And do you have issues with it and realtime?
  • Terence D. Skelton

I have ProCat, but still have a Stentura 8000LX. I also don't hook up to my computer on jobs.  But I have an ASUS, I bought in 2012, that has worked great with ProCat.  Interested in how you like the Xpression.  I see they're having a similar finance special that I got when I bought my Stentura 14 years ago, which is about the only way I'm going to afford a new machine.  My ASUS, I bought from a local computer place, as only Windows 8 was available at the time, and ProCat was not compatible with that at the time, so I paid dearly to get a Windows 7 laptop.  It's been a great computer.  But since it was so expensive, I don't tote it around, using it more like a hard drive.  I was looking at laptops today at Best Buy.  Really like the Dell Inspiron.  You're right, I didn't see any Toshibas.  Where have they gone?

  • Terence D. Skelton

Chris, what kind of thinkpad do you use to work at home?

  • Lisa Berryhill

Help! I just accidentally turned on the paragraph and tabs and now they're showing. I'm having a mental block and can't think of how to turn it off.  Any ideas?  Thank you

  • Lisa Berryhill

Thank you, Liz!  My main toolbar was turned off and I couldn't see it. Hope you have a fantastic weekend.

  • Heather Roseman

Hi Guys!  I'm trying to set up my realtime and the Xpression isn't listed as an option under Realtime Options...do I use Impression?  Stylus?

  • Terence D. Skelton

My scopist's sister, a former reporter who has left reporting due to hand issues, is hoping to get into scoping and/or proofreading.  She is on Procat.  If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to connect y'all!

  • sandra pedraza

Terrence, I need a scopist.  Please connect me with her.

  • Terence D. Skelton

My email is tadskelton@aol.com.  If you email me, I'll forward your email to her.  Good luck!

  • Mary L. Reynolds

Can someone please tell me how to load a job into ProCat to scope?  I am having trouble getting it to load and wondering if there is another way to do it.  I need to get this job done.  Thanks.

  • Terence D. Skelton

Hi, Mary.  If you have the job saved on a folder in your computer, or on a flash drive, you can go to the archive menu on your main page.  Then you select restore, then next.  There will be an archived file box, with a little box with three dots, which you will select so you can browse your computer to find the job.  Once you find the job, click on it.  Then hit finish.  Go to editor, and the file should be there.  Good luck!
