Ok. I have 9 months left in the program and quite honestly, I am losing my focus. I know I want this so bad but it just seems like I am stuck. I could probably take some speed tests and hope that I pass but it just seems like I don't even want to practice anymore.

I just don't know at this point what I should do............................

To be continued....................

Thought I would update all of you that offered advice. I am trying a bit of everything and so far so good. I am gonig to try and attempt tests this week if I find the time since the site will be down all weekend for maintenance.

As far as the dictionary, Virginia, I didn't know until last semester that we were supposed to be adding to it so I am WAY behind on that. But nonetheless, I am pushing forward!

Thanks Again!

Well, I have started doing a book on tape. I really like it! Although, I learned this week that we were supposed to be building our personal dictionaries this whole time and I haven't. So, now I am doing about 100 things at once to catch up my dictionary. So things are FINALLY looking up!!! Thanks for all the great advice!

Wow! That is a great idea!!! I should try that. I do try and do it in my head when I watch my shows but maybe working actually on the machine would work better! I am going to try that too!

well, I have to agree with just about everything on this page - except your comment about the 3 tries or your out thing (well, you didn't actually SAY that). I talked to Mr. P and he said by the end of 7th quarter, which is 3 quarters of theory and 4 quarters at 80/100 (which is dire, but apparently, there are quite a few in that situation). Did they tell you FA was in trouble after your sixth quarter? I am going to call and clarify that tomorrow.

At any rate - I will admit to one thing that I do -- I moved my desk into my bedroom and have a 40" flatscreen in my entertainment unit on the wall and I run movies while I'm practicing - I seldom even notice what I'm watching, but it's background noise and the silence doesn't eat me up - I can't stand hours of silence. I do tune it out but it honestly helps me stay put and write, which is what sounds like you are having a problem with - motivation to stay in one spot and put the hours in - I don't get up until the movie is over - that's at least 1 1/2 or 2 hours! I have a few hundred movies (my son works at a movie rental). You might try that!

Yes, 3 times to pass each speed level. What are RPR and RMR tapes? I am currently at the 120 level. I know I can do it but I have been dealing with illness for the past few months. I try to just ignore it and press on but somedays it is so bad all I can do is lay around. So, I have gotten off track. Also, I should say that I am an online student so I don't have to go to class. Some of the material that we are required to practice is so dry, it is hard to practice it.

What speed are you stuck at? I just graduated school last May. I was stuck at 180 for the longest time! They say that everyone has that hump to get over once you get to the higher speeds. Once I got past those 180 test, I flew through the rest of the program. What helped me was practicing to RPR and RMR tapes. They can be really fast depending on what speed you're at, but the material tends to be harder than what you hear in class and it gets your fingers moving. You will feel like you aren't getting anything, but when you get to class, It makes their takes so much easier. Also, I always had a problem when it came to trying to practice for long periods of time because I would lose focus and get so frustrated. I always practiced for like 20 minutes to a half hour a couple times a day instead of all at once. Good Luck!!

Does that mean you have three chances to pass our 180s, etc, like it did many moons ago, or is it different now?

You are right! Although I will say that at my school they say you have 3 attempts to pass a speed class and if you don't by then it messes up your financial aid!

Stephanie, no, I don't have a time limit but I would like to graduate by this October. I have just not been able to focus on the material we are assigned to practice and it makes me lose focus.

Thank you all for all of these ideas. I am going to try EVERYTHING that each of you said.
