how is this transcribed?

Merriam doesn't have an opinion, and I'm seeing about 30 different ways on different google results.

it just looks awkward no matter what.

I do P.O. Box, but I don't think there is a right or wrong way.

As an aside, YEARS AGO, the way to write "Washington, D.C." was like this, "Washington, D. C." There was a space between the "D" and the "C." I asked why and was told that it represented that the word "of" was missing, as in "District of Columbia."

This was during the days when the zip code was two digits. My address, for example, would have been Washington 15, D. C., and the phone numbers had words, like Kelloggs 5-5555.

Today, most people write "Washington DC," no period, no comma, and no space. I dropped the space, but I still use a comma and periods: "Washington, D.C."

I write PO box when no number is given, as in, "I have a PO box."

When a number is spoken I write, "PO Box 555." Just 'nish cap Box.

I really think this is one of those items where personal preference comes into play. Just be consistent with whatever you choose :)

I usually write PO Box. I think P.O. Box is also correct. I think it's personal preference.

I use "PO box," PO*BGS, I think, but that's FOPD (off the top of my head) without checking the PDICT.

Working late again??
