Here's a great site for maritime terms that I found recently. It doesn't have everything, but it's a good start.

Has anyone heard of a Cayman ID worker?

Q In your interrogatory answers, you say you began as a casual longshore worker and as a Cayman ID worker.
Explain that process for me.
A You have to have so many hours before they consider you a ID.

If you can help, I appreciate it. Thanks!
Hi, Karen,

I Googled "cayman" and "cay" to start. Of course, most of it referenced the Cayman Islands. "Caiman" is a species of crocodile (boy, I sure learned a lot!) Also tried "longshoreman" to see if it would mention cayman, as well as "stevedore." Looks like the witness's word isn't used in the U.S. Suggest you browse those words and they may lead you to "cayman" Sounds like it is a British word or maybe Australian. Sorry I couldn't help you further.
