Twitter seems to be so popular and I hear about it all the time. I guess I don't quite understand how it works or why. I just watched a mini video about it. I like to keep up on the latest technology because I find it interesting.

Are there any users of Twitter that can explain it a little more? I feel a bit lost on the concept.

Yeah, you and me both. I just don't get Twitter. The value of Facebook is the conversations I get into. I look at Twitter and think, what for?

I do use it for one thing. Mark Kislingbury tweets have briefs and sometimes other useful info. But I still prefer FB.
I wonder if you have to be 21 to appreciate it.
I don't want anyone to know or learn any more about me than what the government provides. Granted, I am now 50, so maybe my sense of logic is different. I was surprised when I did a search on the Internet for myself, csrnation stuff I did shows up. I'm even to the point now I use cash for groceries. (If I should ever decide to run away I have a good start on staying hidden - lol).
I just cashed in Discover points and now 3 gifts are taken care of:
45 points = $50 TJ Maxx gift card x 2
45 points = $50 Panera Bread gift card

Needless to say, I put as much as I can on Discover!

I also cashed in mypoints points for a $50 gift card to Kohl's. So I have four gifts sitting in my drawer which cost me zero money. (Yeah, I could use these gifts cards for myself so let's say zero psychological money!)

All credit cards are set to pay the full balance automatically monthly from my checking account, so I never even think about it.

These transactions do not show up in a google search!
As far as Twitter goes, I'm in my late twenties and I don't get it. It's free promo for singers, etc. but other than that I really don't see the point. One thing I've heard it it's easier to post from a cell/PDA, but I FB just fine via mobil. On the Ellen show one of the actors from Friends fame was saying since he isn't working on anything right now he tweets what he is making for lunch. Wow for that.
That is funny about what he is making for lunch. I watched a mini video on Twitter and it said you can find out what your friends are doing like having coffee or reading a book.

Now, don't get me wrong but I don't really care if my friends are having coffee. Apparently there are some people out there that do care about the little stuff in their freinds' and families' lives.
Maybe the info is more accurate because it is not filtered through the press and how they want to put a spin on every story. I could see how that would be valuable information when people tweet on exactly what they see on the spot.
I opened an account a year or so ago and made two or three tweets, and that was it. I am not sure what to tweet about.

Tweet: Woke up early and drank coffee this morning.
Tweet: I went to my computer and typed pages.
Tweet: Starbucks this afternoon was crowded.
Tweet: Dinner was nice this evening, chicken and peas.
Tweet: There is not much to watch on Saturday night TV.

Maybe I just lead a boring life, but I don't think my tweets will be very entertaining to the masses. LOL
I opened a Twitter account a long time ago, and have never used it. I'm on FB, and find it pretty easy to use. no problems. I don't have the extra time in my day to be tweeting a quick message about what I'm doing...You can pretty much guarantee I'm doing school work, sleeping, or being with my girls. There's only so many ways that you can write about that!

Sorry, it's not much help.
Hi, Kelli.

I tweet ... and I'm almost as far away from 21 as Mary Jo! :o)

As Jennie says, I am very careful not to tell everyone what I'm doing every minute of the day, like some folks ("GOING ON VACATION FOR TWO WEEKS!" which translates to "MY HOUSE IS EMPTY AND READY TO BE ROBBED!" to certain elements of society). Instead, I just tweet when I update my (cheap and sleazy) website ... which hasn't been done in a few days, now that I think about it ....

Here's a link to my Twitter page:

I even gave in and downloaded a Twitter app called "Twitteriffic." Seems nice; definitely gets the job done!

As for the usefulness of it all, well, Rich has found a good use ... and I think the revolutionaries in Iraq put it to good use as well. Whether or not you will find a good use for it is another matter, I would think ... but in these days of media blackouts as Rich described, it can't hurt to have an account. Just be sure to pick who you follow with care!

Hope that helps ....

P.S.:

I just Googled myself for the first time in a while ... didn't find any financial transactions, but I did find a couple chess games I wrote up for my local chess newsletter a few years back -- after wading through all the Greatful Dead references (seems they were on the Warner Brothers label). Too bad they didn't include the scintillating commentary that was in the newsletter article ....

I'm a very private person, so I don't feel the need to let the world know where I am or what I'm doing during my every waking moment. The Nation is the first and pretty much only social networking site that I actively participated in. But ever since I became aware that my posts show up in a Yahoo/Google search, I have not participated much anymore. I have a FB account, but I don't participate/post/use it much. I just like to play the games on there. As such, I don't see the appeal or have the need for Twitter. :)

Tweet: Working on a super-fast doc's depo -- ugh! :(
