What is the best net book for the money out there, around $300?  What has the best audio?

Thanks!

I personally love the Asus Eee netbooks.  I have three of them.

Thanks Janet.

Does it have a one gig hard drive?  Is that enough for running realtime?

Hi Kerry,

I don't typically use them for running my CAT software.  I use them for realtime for attorneys.  I did use it for my CAT when I had  a problem with my laptop, and the audio was better than I expected.  It did work fine providing realtime out.

I don't like editing on a netbook, which is why I don't use it for my CAT computer.

Janet,

Why don't you like editing on them?  Just the keyboard and/or small screen?

Thanks,

Kerry

Yes, Kerry, both of those reasons.  I prefer to work with a 14" screen.

I think Janet is right.  I have a few of them.  I also like the Acer for about 250.  Better hurry, though, because I understand that  they don't make these net books anymore because of the iPad; can't compete.

My little Dell 410 barely has a one gig hard drive.  I have my DigitalCat software, and Word and Open Office (word processing) on it.  It does fine.

I noticed that some of these netbooks say they are Windows 7 "starter" and 32 bit.  Will it run okay with

Case Catalyst latest versions?  Anyone know?

thanks!

32-bit works with all CAT versions.

I might order one of these netbooks.  It's 11.6" and has a full-size keyboard.  Perfect size.  I would use it for realtime, but keep my CAT on it.  It's got 4 GB memory, 250 GB hard drive.  I've had Acers before.  They're very similar to the Asus.

I bought this one from Walmart, but I got the 10.1" version for $248.  I love it because it is ultra slim.  The body of it is thinner and, therefore, lighter than the Asus netbooks.  It has Windows 7 starter on it which so far the only thing I've encountered different with Starter vs. Home/Pro is I can't customized the desktop picture. Otherwise, everything else has been the same for me.

And referring to an earlier question in this thread, the netbooks don't have just 1GB hard drive.  That is the amount of memory.  The hard drives are 250 or 320 GB.  I don't think any of the CAT software could run on a 1GB hard drive!

I'm glad you like it, Lisa.  I just ordered this one.  I wasn't even looking for one.  :)

This is the one I use for myself on the job.  I run Eclipse on it with no problem.   Love it.  Am trying to resist buying another one as a spare...  I wonder if they will really stop making them.  That would be terrible.  I notice the price has gone up -- I used to find them for about $250.
