My car insurance just went up $15 a month, that's $180 a year.  No accidents, no tickets.  What's up with car insurance now?

It's with Travelers.  I will not use State Farm or Allstate.

What limits does everyone carry, other than comp and collision deductibles, i.e.,

liability, uninsured motorist?  I think I'm going to lower mine if they're going to raise

rates this much.  I'm a good driver.

Any suggestions?

I pay $1300 year with Allstate and very high coverage.  I switched to them after Liberty Mutual went up ridiculously.  No accidents or tickets either.  2005 Camry and in NJ.  Just for comparison.

Well, I have 2009 Hyundai Elantra.  I was paying about $74 a month, 100/300 on liability and $500 deductibles on

comp and collision.  It just went up to $90 a month.  I've never had that much premium increase at once on

car insurance.

You were paying $888 a year and now paying $1,080 a year and for a much newer car than I have.  I'd take it in a heartbeat!  Yes, a big jump but $888 seems oddly and abnormally low so amortize the two years and you're paying $984/year.  Not too shabby!

Allstate is terrible when it comes to paying claims, I hear, as is State Farm.

For anyone who doesn't know it, having a windshield replaced at insurance expense is considered a claim - and it counts.  A few years ago I had Amica (very cheap).  I paid late and they dropped me.

I pay 950 a year for a 2007 Lexus. 100/300  Just got insurance for my 17 year old.   2009 Ford Escape $2037 a year!!! Yikes.

I don't like taking hits on my car insurance so the insurance companies can recoup their losses on the claims caused by mother nature this past year.  It just isn't right.  It's as if they will "never" absorb any loss at all on their part.

Martha,

That's less than I'm paying on a cheaper car.  Who can afford SUVs anymore!

Kerry, I'm curious, why are you against State Farm?  I pretty much have everything.  After a discussion I read on CourtReporterSite.com I raised my uninsured motorist coverage.  They were saying in bad economies the one of the first things people let go of is their car insurance.  I raised that in case I get hit by someone who doesn't have insurance and I'm injured.

I pay about $300 every six months.  I have State Farm.  I drive an SUV.  I went so long w/o having an accident that they put me in this program where I don't think they can cancel me ever and also the first accident I have is forgiven.  I don't think they have that program anymore but I still get it b/c I earned. it.

I have State Farm for my business equipment insurance.  They paid really fast when I had to make a claim on that.

I also have them for my home owners to get discounts.  I have had to make one claim on my home owners when we had a really bad ice storm here.  They paid quickly for that.

I've never had any problems with State Farm.

Janice,

$300?  Do you just carry liability and uninsured motorist?

I had State Farm for 25 years, good driving record.  I had rear-enders (other people running into me)

over the years, never filed a claim.  I think all those rear-enders took a toll on my neck over the years.

So I followed up on the last one with doctors to see what was going on with my neck.  I had to sue State

Farm to get them to reimburse me for all of my medical bills.

No, I have everything there is on my auto insurance.  I live in Kansas and I think our rates are lower, plus I have every discount you can have, accident free, multi-line...

Before I increased the amount of uninsured motorist it was like $285 every six months.  I drive an SUV.
