Disabling Real Tek sound

I saw some discussion on an older post for disabling Real Tek.  Can anyone tell me what the benefits if any of that are for recording purposes?  I use the Martel mic plugged into a mic jack.

I think if you disabled Real Tek, you would have to have an external sound card to use.  I could be wrong.   When I installed my Andrea Sound Card, I disabled the recorder/sound that came with my computer.
