Hi everyone.  I bought a Mira from a friend of mine.  She used her cable for realtime.  I use Stenocast.  I have downloaded the drivers for the Mira, I have been on Advantage software trying to figure out the problem and I can't get the Mira to work with Stenocast.  It's like Stenocast isn't communicating.  I took all the stenocast drivers off the computer and started over by loading it on again with CD.  Didn't work.  Tried all different com ports, nothing.  My Stentura works fine with the Stenocast.  Anyone have any problems similar to mine that can help me?  Thank you.

My Mira worked with StenoCast when I used my Mira.  I'm not sure it's the Mira that's the problem.  Is it just not writing to the realtime computer that has the Stenocast dongle on it?

Well, it works with my Stentura.  It doesn't work with my Mira.  I have downloaded the drivers for the Mira on the computer.  i have all the updated drivers for the Stenocast.  I have tried each com port, and the only thing the Mira says is, "Device configured."  no pass key code on computer.  What does that mean?  no one seems to know how to help me.  At this point the Mira is hooked on with the USB cable for now, while I figure this thing out.  I know this Mira doesn't have wireless, but it shouldn't make a difference, should it?  I mean, that is what the Stenocast is for.

When I used my Mira, I used the USB cable and never used wireless; always afraid something would happen and think hard wiring is better.  That is really weird.  I just set up a brand new computer with Stenocast/Diamante/Eclipse and everything worked great the first time.

This is puzzling me.  No pass key code on computer, do you have your key attached?  I can't see any other reason to get that message.  I know it's the same driver for the Diamante as for the Mira because when I hit on "input" I put in the "Mira" as the input of the writer.  Did you do that already?  You probably have I'm sure.  Also, go into "Input" and do a test to make sure the computer is recognizing your writer.  Are you saying it works great till you attach the Stenocast?

I know when I use the Stenocast, I always use the same USB port every time so the computer recognizes it.

Yup.  I've done it all.  I even took all the drivers for Stenocast off, and reinstalled with the CD.  Nothing.  I plugged my Stentura in, worked wonderfully.  I have my key attached.  It should be a no-brainer.  But, alas, nothing.

Sorry, Lisa, I can't be more help.  That is so strange.  I'm sure it's some little thing we're not even thinking of.You and I are both on the same software and I've used the Mira with no problem.  Very weird.

You should try posting in the StenoCast User's Group on this forum and see if anyone else has an answer for you.  Just a thought.

Are you trying to use the Stenocast to transmit from your Mira to your computer, or from your computer to the attys' computers?  As far as I know, the Stenocast is for the second option, not the first.  How are you connecting your Mira to your computer?

Do you have the Stenograph wireless communication kit?

I just found this in the Mira manual:

A wireless communication kit. Stenograph provides élan Mira

wireless support when the élan Mira Wireless Communication

kit is used. Other wireless adapters and software are not

supported.

Okay, I just got the answer from Stenocast.  This is the deal.  When I ordered the Stenocast device I had a Stentura writer. My device that hooks onto my machine is called a Lithium X1, which is the first wireless they made.  The device was configured to only work with my Stentura machine.  Now, the X1 would plug into the back of my Stantura and the little dongle, the USB part, would go into my computer.  So I would write realtime, wireless, to myself.

so when I bought the Mira, I guess the Lithium X1 can be reconfigured to fit my Mira.  I just have to send it in and have them reconfigure it to the Mira.  The only problem with that being that if something happens to the Mira, and I need to use my Stentura as a backup, I can't, because it will no longer work with my Stentura.

So, in a nutshell, I have to use my cable, for now.  He told me that they are currently working on a wireless device, that does the same thing as my Lithium X1, that will be compatible to the Mira, and therefore I can write wireless once again. The down side, I have to wait.  I have placed my name on a list and i will be getting it as soon as it's out, God willing.

So there it is.  I'm not crazy.  It just wasn't configured to my new machine.  Of course, it's kind of annoying, but when is technology not annoying in those certain instances when you need it the most?

So there it is.  I have an old Stenocast, and it just needs to be changed.  But I think I will wait.

thank you for all of your help!  I'm glad this is figured out now!

I actually thought you used the Stenocast to output realtime to the attorneys and it wasn't working.  I didn't realize you were doing BlueTooth to your computer with the writer.  There is a huge difference there.  I've never done that for fear there will be some issue in some room with wireless software and it will screw something up.  Always use the wire.

It will be nice when we don't have to use the USB key any longer either, which I understand is coming soon.  Can't wait......

I love my Stenocast.  I loved not being hooked onto the computer with a cable.  It was the best thing ever!  I was tempted to send it in so it could get reconfigured, but if it weren't for the fact that I do not have my Stentura cables any longer, I think opting to wait for the one for the Mira is my best bet.  Never had interference, never had a freezing problem, never had anything go wrong with it.  It worked like a charm each and every time.  I even told the rep it's the best product I've ever used and so I am disapointed that I can't use it.  I hope the new product is as great as this one.
