I have 63 instances in a 230-page transcript of a five-and-a-half-hour public hearing. Went to midnight, so everybody (me especially) was dog-tired. And wouldn't you know I go back tomorrow night for more.
I hope you're using indented colloquy margins and putting in every single utterance, dashed of course, to plump up the pages and I also hope you're charging appropriately higher night rates and hearing rates. Talk about BLOOD MONEY!!!
You bet I put every single one in on its own line, dashes, etc. Sometimes three on a single page, no less.
It's through a firm that does have a night rate, but not enough for this.
I surcharge for video, medical, interpreter and phone dep (the person conducting the dep on the phone gets surcharged and I get my percentage of that). Out-of-control proceedings should be surcharged as well.
The key is having agreement on all this before you go out on a job, Anne. Each oddball scenario I encounter, I add a line item to my rate sheet so I don't ever have to think about it as far as rates or agreement on said rates. So the time to apply this is now, before you encounter something.
