Welcome to CSR Nation
I finally got a Target "Red Card" a couple of months ago. Wow, what a deal. They sent me a coupon in the mail for $10 off just for getting the card. I had to spend $75 to get the $10. So I went to Target and stocked up on dog food and cat food and paper towels and cat litter and stuff like that. I spent $185. So my receipt told me what I had gotten on sale. I saved around $11 b/c I bought things that were on sale. Because I used the Target credit card I get 5% off and that saves me another $22 and some change. I saved $43. I only bought stuff I would have bought elsewhere, like the grocery store. These things would have been much more expensive there.
Another benefit of this card is you can order things online from Target and they will not charge you shipping. I think it's a great deal and just thought I would pass it on.

I was thinking about getting that card, too. I guess whether the 5% is worth it is if the cost of groceries is the same or less than you buy elsewhere. It might be good to compare the prices with, say, Costco.
I also have a Pen Fed Credit Union credit card(I joined the credit union just to get this card) that pays 5% back on gasoline.
I also have a AMEX Fidelity 2% back on all charges, which I use to charge everything I can think of, including cellphone bill and cable bill, groceries, charities. I think last year I got $850 back in my Fidelity Investments account. If only I could charge my mortgage I'd be a happy camper.
