UPDATE: I finally got fed up with the constant adjustments on my Elan Mira. There is a certified service provider in my area (Orange Co., CA), The Steno Doctor. I called their office and was informed that Stenograph trained nationwide tech/repair providers last year on this issue. Apparently, there's a doo-hickey in the Mira that gets pitted over time and the stacking starts. A certified repair tech replaces the doo-hickey, does a cleaning/maintenance and your Mira will be good to go.

To find a Stenograph-certified service technician in your area, go to Stenograph.com, click on Support, then Service Providers.

I hope this helps.

Hallelujah! I have a certified Stenograph technician who works on my writer. I'll call him immediately!

Thank you.

I picked my Mira up yesterday from the Steno Doctor, and after a quick practice session on the MagnumSteno Club, I didn't see any stacks OR dribbling. YIPPEE!!

I go back to work Tuesday after two weeks off - sigh -- so I'll post later how it does on the job.
What do you mean by "dribbling"? I get double or triple Ts and double Us. Is that it?

Debbie,
When you have a single letter on a line and that letter repeats itself line after line, that sounds like a sensitivity issue. Try adjusting the letter's sensitivity on the number dial, up or down, and if that doesn't help, try adjusting the white ridged dial to the left and behind the numbered dial adjusters inside the machine.

Great, I'm glad I could relay some good news. My Mira goes in Wed. afternoon and then I'll p/u on Saturday. I can't wait to start my 280 practice CD and not see any stacking. I've held off on finishing off the RMR test (one leg) because of that darn stacking!!
I just ordered a new A3 Mira. From the moment I received it it started stacking and splitting. I sent it back to Stenograph for an overhaul and adjustment. When it returned, it was somewhat better but still splits and stacks. I ordered the new model A3 hoping that they would have corrected these problems from the model manufactured 3 years ago which I bought. To my dismay, this model is not any better.
