Hello!
I'm only on 160 wpm, but I need to pass two 160 tests at 98% accuracy.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can do this?

How much practise do you think I should be doing a day?

I've got a couple of 200 wpm tapes to practise to and the magnumsteno website.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Well, sounds to me that you need to learn not to drop at all at 160 - that's probably why you're transcription percentage is low.

If you're practicing at 200 (you should be), follow Mark's rules:

!. Stay on the speaker
2. Get a stroke for everything
3. Make it your best possible stroke
4. 100% concentration - no inner voices!!

It's only by doing that that high speed practice will raise your game at lower speeds.

This works - it helped me pass 2 back-to-back 160 tests with high accuracy.

You have 5 weeks - you can do it! Practice frequently throughout the day so the brain adapts to the task at hand.

Good luck!
Ok thanks Monica!

Do you think 200 is fast enough? perhaps I should be doing 220 also.

I think 200 is great.

When I was striving for accuracy on a fast tape in school, I'd take the tape over and over again until I got it clean. I'm not sure if Mark would recommend that, but that's what I did when I was in school.

I don't do it anymore, but I really think it's what helped me to become such a clean writer.
One thing that really helped me was I would listen to the hire takes in the car and when I was driving around. It really helped me get used to hearing the higher speeds so they didn't sound so fast. Good luck!
I have to agree. I'm not sure it's what put me over the top, but I listened to at least a speed higher, sometimes two speeds higher in the car on the way to school. Or even in my headphones at school during free time. But I wouldn't write it. Just listen and get used to the cadence. You can visualize the strokes, but it takes the pressure off of trying to write a stroke for each word at that speed since you're not there yet!

Good luck!
