I tried to reply to the other Windows 7 discussion, but there was not button to post it.

I just bought a new computer with Windows 7, 64-bit version. Eclipse loaded without a single issue, and so far so good!!! No freezing, no delay in my writing. I'm waiting to receive the CoolGear USB-to-serial adapter to test my realtime. I'm using the Diamante, by the way, and that is working fine with Windows 7 and Eclipse.

The Windows 7 loads up and shuts down a whole lot faster than Vista. So far, it doesn't seem as quirky as Vista. It's pretty easy to navigate through the system. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that this is a big improvement over Vista.

Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of buying a small laptop and loading Bridge on there for realtime.
Janet,
Did you ever use Vista? And did you have freezing problems with it? I did, so I went back to using my old laptop pre-Vista. Just wondering.
Thanks!
Heidi
Hi Heidi,

Yes, I had freezing problems with Vista, so I went back to an XP computer. So far the Windows 7 doesn't get hung up like Vista getting into programs or switching between programs. I tried running the internet in the background while practicing in Eclipse last night, switching between the two, to see if it got hung up, and it didn't. I also had Norton antivirus running. I'll know more after I work with it. I should be getting my USB adapter in a few days. I'm hoping there won't be any issues outputting to another computer.

Last night I did have an issue with freezing when playing back audio during a realtime session.
Hi Janet -
Did you have your Norton running when you got the freeze? Thanks for reporting your results with 7. I'm so hoping it's really better than Vista!
After spending more time, really working in realtime, more bugs came out. I turned the Norton off, Julie, and still had freezing. The macros in Eclipse didn't perform right. For example, my two-stroke global, three-stroke, etc., didn't work. The audio freezes and both the play and stop get stuck down, then Eclipse becomes unresponsive and I have to use Task Manager to get out of Eclipse.

I wrote to Jeremy and will follow up with tech support, but I wanted to follow up here, too, in case someone is about to buy a new computer.

Funny how nice it worked the first day, then boom!

Also, the fill-ins for exhibits came out crazy, with a font that had to be 45 or more, and took up the whole page.

In other words, there's a lot that needs to be worked out before this is a viable option.
The user control settings in Windows 7 are different than Vista. I had not turned them off, and that was causing problems in Eclipse. I am now having much better results. I am testing the CoolGear USB adapter, and so far no freezing with the output like I had in Vista.

Thanks for letting me know. That makes me feel better about it. I always get a bit queasy when buying a new computer with a new windows set up. Anything is probably better than Vista, right?

Thanks again.

My job went smoothly yesterday, not a single issue with Eclipse and Windows 7.
Janet, did you know that you can use a USB cable to connect the Diamante to your computer to write realtime and you do not need the serial-to-USB adapter? Look on the back of your machine and you will see the little square where it plugs in. Under User Settings, just switch "Realtime From" to USB port. I've found it to be a very smooth connection.
Hi Judy,

I do use the USB connection for the Diamante. It's realtime out to counsel that I use the USB-to-serial adapter for.

Janet
