Semicolons! "Morson's" Rule 19 says to use them to join two closely related independent clauses when no coordinating conjunction separates them. "Bad Grammar / Good Punctuation" says to use them to join two independent clauses when they are not separated by a conjunction and the construction is grammatically parallel (Semicolon.2).

I didn't know that about torties, Ashley.  I thought that was only true of Calicos.  Good to learn something new.

Fun fact: Tortoiseshell cats are almost exclusively female; male torties are rare and are usually sterile. Genetics!

So the semicolon is correctly used.  The poor kitty is obviously being misused based upon his/her behavior. The cat's clearly starving to death.  LOL

I'll guess you stopped trying to take care of yourself first and gave up and fed your cat, right? :)
