Saw your comment on the FAQ page, and your stories are definitely Blog-worthy! Since you've taken that first step of talking to strangers on the internet, the obvious next step is to start a blog, and tell some of those stories you've got saved up. Who knows? Maybe one day it will turn into a book!
Kyung already suggested what I was going to suggest: Joining the Cover Depos group.
Of course, that may keep you too busy to write that blog ... hmmm ... dilemma, dilemma!
Your past experiences are very interesting and entertaining! If you ever need any scopist assistance, feel free to check out My Page here. Like you, I live in the East Bay, in Newark.
Welcome! I felt just like you when I joined this site; talking to strangers on the 'net, and now I can't go through the week without logging on. I've been reporting for 24 years and I learn new things all the time here.
Oh, btw, sounds like you've got a ton of juicy stories and a lot of experience. It's wonderful have so many reporters with so much experience on the board.
It would be great if you joined the Mentor's group. I bet you would have great advice for all the newer reporters out there.
Welcome aboard. If you're looking for work, I suggest you sign up with the Cover Depos group. At the top of the page you'll see a header called Cover Depos. Click on that. It will take you to a page with a bunch of groups. Scroll through until you find the one for the area you're looking for work in. Click on it and join that group. When agencies have a job in that area that they need covered, they will send out a mass e-mail to everyone who is in the group asking for reporters to help cover the job.
If you've got any questions, feel free to drop me a line.
