Any others with a Latte coffee addiction?

I only had my first Starbucks in NYC for the NCRA convention. Loved it; Vanilla Latte.
But could not spend the $$ for one, lol. Recently tho, I had a Creme Brulee Latte at a small,
local coffee shop and LOVE it! I am trying to keep it to once a week...figure is equal to a pack of
cigarettes a week? LOL! I also bought their Creme Brulee coffee and make it at home in my
latte maker DH got for me for my Birthday. Helps curb my craving, but not AS good as theirs!l
And I only do one large for the day of theirs, or two cups of mine. I don't have coffee past
2pm either, lol.

What other flavors are out there that I should try? This one is White Chocolate/Caramel.
Please share your coffee or other addiction!

Ah, Mysc, it just took a while for it to get waaaaaaaaaaaay back there! the first latte or cappucino I remember seeing (not Starbucks, but at a cool pizza place) was in about 1978. There was a coffeeshop across the street from my CR school that sold lattes and caps and all those things. So I got "hooked" then, over 20 years ago.

Hey, West Coast has to have *something* first! :D

Mysci, only 15 years ago? Girl, out here in the Pacific North Wet *nod to Glen* we've been doing this for well over 20 years. I had a deposition with Kentucky attys 15+ years ago, and they said, "Y'all are weird out here. In our bars we have WHISKEY!"

A Love-Hate Relationship

By Mark Fazzone

For years I have taken pride in the fact that I have never smoked a
cigarette. I rarely drink alcohol and on those few social occasions when I
do, never in excess. (Well,..almost never)

Now, hesitantly, I have decided to come out and admit I have a problem. I
never thought I would experience the agonizing pull of addiction. When I
encounter folks on the street, have dinner with friends or worse during
Sunday school at PortNaz on Sunday mornings I find myself wondering, do
they know? Their innocent comments, smiles and polite nods build on my
paranoia, robbing me of sleep, causing me to retreat inward as I attempt
to hide this indignity and my personal shame.

I spent this past weekend with my best friend attending a conference in
Fresno and several times during the trip I almost came out and admitted I
needed help and that I could no longer try and defeat this demon alone.
But, pride and shame kept me from coming clean and admitting my weakness
to my closest friend.

Now I hope that through this admission I may begin the healing process,
begin to loose myself from the ties of this addiction. It is also my
desire that any of you reading this column who also struggle with this
will find some solace in knowing you are not in this struggle alone.

I am an abuser of Starbucks coffee. More specifically the Venti Sugar-Free
Cinnamon Dolce Latte Breve served hot with an extra shot of espresso. Once
sometimes twice a day, without thinking, I find myself in the
drive-through, feeding my vice, often at the expense of a proper breakfast
or lunch. Even now as I type this declaration, I am reluctant to admit,
that mischievous sprite that surely will be my downfall sits in its usual
spot to the right of my keyboard on coaster made out of one of those
little sleeves the conspirators at Starbucks slip over the hot beverages
they push.

Like many of my fellow addicts I have allowed and encouraged my own family
to participate in this sad state of affairs dragging them down with me in
my attempt to pretend that I was in control.

Sadly I must report that yesterday evening on my way home I decided to
stop by the Starbucks near the intersection of Main Street and Olive to
feed my cravings and as I was pulling into the parking area I saw my own
dear sweet wife Susan sitting in a cozy corner of the establishment
quietly consuming her own cup of the addictive elixir. As I walked up to
the counter, Broken and saddened, still unable to escape the desire for my
next fix, our eyes locked across the room. For a moment there was
understanding in those lovely eyes. Time stood still as the consequences
of my actions played like a movie in my mind convicting me of my ill
intentioned ways.

Luckily I was able to shake it off and place my order before the next
person in line stepped up. After taking the object of my disgrace from the
polite young woman who prepared it for me behind the counter I made my way
over to where my wife was sitting. We successfully let the situation play
out as if nothing was wrong but deep down both feeling the embarrassment
from being caught.

So, to my fellow brothers and sisters out there silently struggling with
this blight to our financial fitness, I feel your pain. When I see you in
line, at the drive through or lounging at one of the many sitting areas I
will smile, politely nod and keep going on my way so as not to make you
feel more uncomfortable. Just know you are not alone in this struggle and
if you are successful at kicking the habit and banking the $100ʼs of
dollars we each spend every year on this horrible habit. Keep it to
yourself the rest of us really donʼt want to know about it.
