How to get that next speed test.

Type it. That's all you've got to do. Of course, you may have to type more than one. But even if it's crap, transcribe it. Learn to read your crap.

It's not just about learning to write faster, it's also about learning to read slop. When you're in the real world taking a deposition, there are going to be times when you're writing slop. Learn to read it.

Add slop to you dictionary. If you consistently misstrokee something, you can either practice, practice, practice, and learn to stroke it perfectly every time (very difficult), learn a brief, or learn to recognize when you misstroke it or better yet, add it to your dictionary so your software will learn to recognize it correctly.

There are going to be times when you misstroke something. There are different words that give everyone trouble. My big thing was agriculture. Trust me, I haven't run into agriculture too much in the depo world, but you never know. At one point when I was doing those godawful congressional literary things when they were droning on about wheat crops and agriculture, that a big fat blob in the middle of the page was going to be my stroke for agriculture. So when reading my notes, I knew when I got to a space where I had a lot of keys on the paper, that was agricullture. God forbid, I should have architecture and agriculture in the same test. But in that case, you could probably figure it out by context, I hope.

But you know what, the more you type, the easier it will get. So the more tests you type (transcribe) the faster you're going to get out of that speed.

Practice and transcribing.

Kind of self-evident, eh?
