I got stuck at 180 and the only thing that got me through was going to court and sitting in for a week or two and just trying as hard as I could to keep up. Then I passed my 180's.

Hi Matt,

Instead of paying for tapes, CDs, and then getting bored with the same ones over and over, go to NCRA's Realtime Coach. It's great practice, great variety, all different speeds. They're running a special right now to introduce everyone to it. It's free for a month or so. Give it a try.

Hi, Tami, I am. I practice that way each day. Twice a day. I ordered an NCRA testimony tape at 225-280. It's hard to concentrate at that speed that long, but my finger speed has improved greatly, I think. The transcripts I put together are better. It's nice to be on this site!

Actually, Matt, the speed contest is one more notch above merit speed.

I hope you are putting to good use all the advice you got that night. That really was pretty special. :)

Check out this article when you get a chance.

Also, if Q&A is giving you fits, take a look at "Dictionaries 'r' Us" for some useful tips.

Deborah,
my name is Matt I heard some similar advice from a speed champ. He talked about reporter who was having trouble taking down court room testimony and growing weary of attorneys not slowing down upon request. On her off time she practiced at speeds much faster than she was accustomed to to "get" the next day's testimony. She did this every day. Approximately 2 weeks later she passed a speed contest. She had had her 225 prior to the speed contest and the contest was at merit speeds. That mentality has helped me quite a bit in my attempt to qualify for the state test in ca. matt h.
