Hello again, all. It has been a while since I posted, but I am looking to see if anyone uses a Mac. I am trying to obtain what the benefits are of using a Mac over a PC or if there are none. I am looking at the new 13" unibody MacPro that has 4GB, Dual Core and 7 hours of battery life! But it is double the price of a PC. Do Macs tend to last longer??

Also, I am on Eclipse and am getting an LS in August, is that going to present any problems? I don't have the support contract with Eclipse seems how it is rather pricey and the only time I use them is when I get a new computer (once ever two or three years), I refuse to pay it. So that being said, I need to make sure that I am going to be able to figure out how to put Eclipse on the Mac without calling support.

Thanks for any input!!!

Ted, husband, a systems architect who has been in the computing industry since his teens, finally got a MacBook Air (name is approximate) and a Mac at his job after years of PC use. He is not impressed by anything other than the form factor of the Air. The PC manufacturers are already copying the streamlined, lightweight design.

You use a program called Parallels or Parallax or some such to run Eclipse on the Mac. It can be done. I'm just not very interested, at least at this point. I used Macs for several years in clerical jobs and did not feel I could adjust and control Mac features enough to suit me. And from what I have seen of Ted's new computing universe, this has not changed. Ted was dissatisfied with the mouse tracking, and there was nothing that allowed him to adjust this to any great extent. He hunted on the Web and found some shareware that did the job. I'd prefer to have that flexibility built into the system.
Ahhhh, this question can cause culture wars on other sites.

I am about to say somthing that makes no sense but i cant stand Mac "fanboys", i would rather eat glass than have a conversation with one of these people.

first of all, I am a Mac user, I also have windows runing on my mac, with that out of the way, PCs are IMO hands down much better.

1- PCs are completely open for developers and users. Macs are better now a days but still a closed system compared to PCs

2- Macs are so expensive compared to PCs (an average mac is 1500-2000, an average PC is 500-800) style shouldn't cost that much of a difference

3- Macs crash too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Don't believe the lies, Macs crash on me all the time, my browser (safari) crashes almost daily. PCs crash too no doubt BUT not as much as the mainstream media and comedians lead you to believe.

4- you just bought a new Mac, congrats! you just got stuck with a computer till you throw it away.
you CANT upgrade Macs, period. PCs, you can pop in a new CPU and move on with your life. with Macs, you have to buy a new one for 1500-2000 (thats where I am at now, I have a 3 year ol slow crappy mac and I cant afford a new one and to move to PC it will require lots of moving effort.)

Windows 7 is almost here, I have tried it and it is so dreamy, it really is. its intuitive, fast and well though out.

just my 2 cents about this.

Now, to put Eclipse on a Mac you need to install windows XP or Vista on the hard drive.
you cant install eclipse on a mac OS
