E-mail access problems today? Breaking News. This just in...

I am unable to get any e-mail from my AOL account today. Now, before you tell me that I should dump that AOL account, it seems that there's a phishing scheme that is hitting other accounts, i.e., Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, et cetera.

Hotmail users aren't the only ones who've been hit by a phishing scheme over the past week. Google told BBC News on Tuesday that Gmail users have also been affected by the hackers who posted passwords online.

The problem is far more widespread than was disclosed on Monday, possibly affecting Yahoo and AOL e-mail accounts as well, according to BBC News.

Google described the issue as an "industrywide phishing scheme." BBC News said it has seen two lists posted online with "more than 30,000 names and passwords" from Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Microsoft's Windows Live Hotmail, and other service providers.

I have other e-mail accounts in my name that I can access if I have to send something to a client, but many of my work-related contacts reach me via AOL. If I cannot read my mail today, I'm going to go nuts. This is almost as bad as losing power or my high-speed Internet connection. Sheesh!

I went for almost a week off and on (mostly off) with Hotmail not working. I know what you mean. It's crucial that email work. I've taken to having a backup email account with a different carrier just in case so I can at least send/receive jobs.

I have a couple e-mail accounts, but, unfortunately for me, my clients always reach me on my AOL account because that's how I communicate with them.

If I was to get rid of AOL and start using one of my other e-mail accounts, it would be like getting a new phone number. I'm so used to the old one, I guess.

I also have my AOL dial-up modem still in use, just in case the high-speed cable goes out. Like you said, it's always good to have a backup plan. :-)
Here's a great article about this:

Oh, Marge, thanks for that link. I am going to pore through it thoroughly tomorrow morning when I'm sipping my coffee, trying to get my eyes to stay open. That's when I love hanging out on the Internet, first thing in the morning.

It's amazing how much dishonesty there is out there. I try to practice safe computing with all the protection on my computers, but it's still not enough sometimes.

About the only thing I can remember in stenotype for brief forms is P-P for "preponderance of the evidence." I'm a QWERTY kind of gal today!

In fact, my goal is to be first in the world on typing speed, and I think I got a shot, but it's those Russians that I just can't seem to beat.

Now I am in eleventh place for beginning level: Jennie Ann is No. 11

Stay tuned because I'm gunning for first place before the end of the year.

Move over, Russians: The Americans are coming. The Americans are coming.
that is so interesting! good luck!!
