It seems to have a lot of bells and whistles for a moderate price. Where is the microphone? My digitical recorder has the microphone on the end so I can place the mic in a little pouch and not be noticeable.
Have you tried downloading an audio file and syncing it with your CAT text and see if it works? Have you tried it in a large room with air conditioning blowing?
I notice the recorder comes in a soft pink. I'd get that!!!!!
You've got to get an AC cord, which is not included. I have two Olympus digital recorders. Never used a Sony. I use batteries so it holds the time, etc, but I plug in at all times.
I don't actually have this one yet. I have three Olympus recorders already, and I don't have a problem with any of them.
But this Sony caught my eye, not only because it's red, but because it plugs directly into your computer via USB -- no cable, no proprietary software, no docking cradle. Just plugs in like a flash drive and you can drag and drop files or audio to or from your computer. This one has a much larger storage capacity than the ones I currently use. It seems like it would be a nifty little recorder, but I was wondering about the recording quality.
I read some of the online reviews, but they weren't really that helpful as I doubt the folks providing the feedback are using it for the same purposes as I would be.
Marge: Just curious. Why do you plug yours in? Is it just because you're afraid of the batteries going dead or do you get better recordings? I don't have AC cords for any of mine, but now you've got me thinking maybe I should.
I plug in everything. It's 3 extra seconds and there's plenty of room on my strip, especially that I use the "power strip liberators," and who needs the stress or even the extra thought about the power or lack of.
You still have to monitor the batteries even if you plug in because otherwise, the settings don't hold.
This Sony, though, similar to the Lightspeed, gets all its power from the USB port. That's great. But in the awful event of a complete meltdown and nothing works, I want to have a recorder that doesn't rely on a computer. This complete meltdown scenario is very unlikely since we all carry multiple laptops but we can never be too careful. I carry 2 digital recorders at all times, so to be safe, have a backup that plugs into AC.
