SO I'VE BEEN THE BIGGEST TOSHIBA FAN SINCE I STARTED IN '98 BUT NOW HEAR THEY AREN'T THAT GREAT, SO CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A LAPTOP THEY ARE JUST LOVING??? I'M ON CASE CAT 10.
I, personally, have a Sony VGN-NS240E. I had a Toshiba Satellite before I sold it to my son-in-law and thought I liked it, but since I got this Sony, I'm in love! I have several Sony products and have always found them to be excellent quality. I bought it at Best Buy and it was under $1,000. Hope that helps! Good luck!
For ThinkPad lovers (the only laptop I’ve ever had; I’m currently on my 5th), do some price checking and then call this guy to see what he has:

He's a retired IBMer, who has great (legitimate) sources of new and slightly used ThinkPads, all with Lenovo warranties which can and should be verified with Lenovo prior to buying, which he upgrades and sells a few on eBay but mostly privately since that gives him the ability to work with the potential buyer and suggest units and alternatives. I am using a T61 now that I bought from him. You get a lot more for your money with Bob than anywhere else. Mine came with only 8 months left on the warranty, so I bought a 2-year extended warranty from Lenovo for $129.
You can't go wrong with Bob. He's terrific and so knowledgeable.
I've always been happy with IBM Thinkpads. I'm on T42 now. My previous, T30, had great audio. I like their support, too. I find them to be very reliable.
I'm going to make it a trifecta. I've always had Thinkpads. Love them. I also have the T42 right now. I've had great audio with it. I'm looking to get a new computer soon and will only consider a Thinkpad.
I bought all my Thinkpads from the now defunct ThinkpadWorld.com. They had a wide selection of new and refurbished and were easy to work with. They're no longer in business, were just gone one day. So when I need a new one (soon), I'm going to check our Marge's recommended guy or go directly through Lenovo.
Trust me: check your prices and then call or email Bob before placing any order. Much better deal with him and the same all-important Lenovo guarantee with the option to extend.
I definitely will, Marge. Thanks for the tip. I didn't know where to turn except for Lenovo after ThinkpadWorld went out of business. Probably January or February for me for a new computer and two new minis for realtime viewing stations.
Rachel, Quite a few people have taken my advice and bought ThinkPads from him. A few have had a problem, and Bob was Johnny on the spot as far as taking care of it. Enjoy the process when you're ready! It's really a pleasure.
