Two questions:  1) How often should proofreaders bill reporters?    2)How long does it "normally" take for reporters to pay their proofreaders after receiving an invoice?  Thanks!

What is the going rate for a scopist these days?  I have a friend interested in this, but I don't know much about it.  I'm a court reporter, but I've never used a scopist before.  Do reporters teach scopist how to read their work, or is there a school they attend?  Just fishing for info to pass onto her.

Thanks

Sandy

Interestingly, Sandy, I read a post on another forum that basically said that nowadays, "scopists" don't need to know how to read notes because many reporters send the audio and require "scoping" to the audio.  In that case, the scopist/proofreader or whatever you want to call them would only have to know how to use the CAT edit station software.  So perhaps the information to pass along would be that it's more important to have a solid knowledge base and skills in grammar and language skills than reading steno notes.  The comment about not knowing steno made sense to me - tons of scopists read to the audio routinely, and many reporters require it.  And because that is becoming the standard, and many scopists do it without being required, I wonder why some scopists upcharge for scoping/proofing/reading to the audio and others do not.

Hey, Ladies,

I don't personally have a scopist, but I have a friend that's inquired about being one.  What do you pay your scopists or should I ask?  I just wanted to know for myself and also to share with her.  You can give me a ballpark figure, if you want.

Thanks
