Website supports proposals to increase NCRA advertising revenue

Most everyone knows I have been campaigning to have NCRA adopt policies to increase their sales of JCR Court Reporter Listing ads so that the NCRA members' dues won't have to pay as much of the expenses of NCRA.

I want NCRA advertising revenue to be increased by over $500,000 per year so that the dues of NCRA members don't have to pay for expenses the additional $500,000 advertising revenue would pay for.

The following website supports and corroborates my recommendations to NCRA.

Many years ago I submitted the idea to NCRA for an annual directory of freelance agencies.

There is a saying that when an idea is a good idea, a lot of people will have the same idea.

Well, the Source 101 experts recommend an annual directory as follows:

"Another way to increase sales to existing advertisers is adding a special publication. For example, an industrial publication might choose to do an annual buyer's directory. The incentive for advertisers is that this would be very resourceful publication that manufacturers would keep on hand the entire year, meaning more potential exposure for their ad. The downside is these issues can cost significantly more to print."

Also, the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada combines its magazine ads with an annual directory of ads.

To view the advertising info of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California go to http://www.adcnc.org/docs/_advertising_rates.pdf

NCRA members wanting a directory of freelance agencies have to rely on the on-line NCRA Professional Services Locator, the  JCR Court Reporter Listings or purchase the NCRA Source Book which is now selling for $51.86 per copy.

Everyone who wants the best court reporter directory in the world is forced to buy the entire NCRA Source Book, which is a membership directory of 19,000 members, in order to have access to the directory of freelance agencies within that Source Book -- the greatest directory of court reporters in the world.

The cost of that directory is $51.86.

I don't know how many copies will be sold of the very, very large 568 page Source Book when some people may only want that Source Book for the directory of freelance agencies in that book.

So I again suggest that NCRA publish a separate Annual Directory of Freelance Agencies which would be about 100 pages or so and sell for from $10 to $15.

The lower cost should result in 100s of more copies of the annual directory being sold which would be a great service to the advertisers who would have ads in the directory.

Also, the directory would contain the ads of both the JCR Court Reporter Listings and the ads from the Source Book, but it wouldn't contain the names of 19,000 members and be 568 pages long as the present Source Book.

An annual directory of NCRA freelance agency advertisers would be in the 100 page range because the 2011 Source Book freelance agency ads consisted of pages 344 through 430 and several separate full page ads spread throughout the Source Book at random pages.

Lots of facts and figures to digest.

Best Regards, Bill

If forum members want further information on the campaign to improve the JCR Court Reporter Listings, they may go to http://www.courtreportersmuseum.info/ncra/NCRA%20letter%20November%... and read a letter sent to the NCRA board of directors in 2010.  There have been further losses of advertisers since the 2010 letter was sent to the NCRA board.

Warning:  If anyone is greatly offended by anyone criticizing the NCRA board and staff, please be warned that the above letter does not consider the NCRA board and staff infallible.

I am just looking out for the best interests of NCRA members.

Extensive statistical data has been prepared in support of the proposed improvements in the JCR Court Reporter Listings advertising policies.

At this time the NCRA board, staff and general membership are not interested in the proposed improvements.

However, the prepared statistical data and proposals will be available to future NCRA board and staffs in future years if they ever  want to avail themselves of the statistical data and if they ever want to consider the proposed improvements.

The NCRA Board of Directors did not raise the JCR Court Reporter Listing ad prices for 22 straight years costing NCRA $114,180 in lost income each year.

That loss of $114,180 is based on no cost of living increase in the JCR Court Reporter Listing ad rates for 22 straight years as compared to the cost of living increase for other JCR Magazine display ads.

Today there are 82 less JCR Court Reporter Listing ads than there were in 1992.

The number of JCR Court Reporter Listing ads went from 261 in 1992 to 179 in March of 2012. With long-term ads now selling for $105 per ad, that's an $86,100 loss per year.

The $114,180 loss plus the $86,100 loss is a yearly loss of NCRA advertising revenue of $200,280.

Signing off, Bill
