Here is a glimpse into my little proofreading nook. 🤓
On my laptop I’ll usually have a few things open like my client’s preference sheet, a proofreading checklist from my student days that I still find helpful, and Merriam-Webster. On my iPad I have the transcript I’m proofing. I usually have a few reference books handy like Margie Wakeman Wells’s Bad Grammar / Good Punctuation and a dictionary of legal terms. If I’m working with a reporter from a different time zone, their time is on my desk clock to keep me on track. And last but not least, gotta have some coffee or tea!

I am proficient in proofreading with the latest version of Stenograph Case CATalyst (in the software) while utilizing spot-check audio. I do not proofread using PDF.
I have proofread more than 1 million pages since November 2002. Before 2002, my background was in the medical and legal fields, and I once managed a busy California court reporting agency.
Not to toot my own horn, but I was the sole proofreader in USA vs. Paul J. Manafort, Jr. criminal trial (Alexandria, VA, Aug 2018) - 2,500+ pages. In October 2019, I proofread the afternoon sessions of USA vs. Igor Y. Danchenko, the last of the so-called "Russiagate" criminal cases, via RealTeam. I have proofread other federal/state trials, hearings, and arbitrations, including daily RealTeam assignments.
My standard page rate is .45 for depositions, .50 for court transcripts, and $1.00/$1.25 for RealTeam. I generally invoice weekly and accept many forms of electronic payments.
My work environment is a secluded room that serves as my home office, so I have minimal distractions.
