Hello Greta,

I have a ? about my Lightspeed.
When I am writing realtime, I have no problems;however, when I am writing on the card and then reading notes in (I am on CaseCatalyst), there is a lot of stacking, especially the speakers' identifications. I know a few people with the same problem. What would you recommend?
I'm stunned! This is the exact opposite problem that I've heard about. I don't suppoe the opposite fix would help? LOL.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have a solution for you. Call support and let them know what's going on; see if they can help you.

Melissa,

Ok. I'm seeing periods after the Q and A, and they appear to line up in your paste, but maybe that just didn't come through. But I'm also seeing that the first word after the A. is not capped.

You have either globalled it or put a bad entry in your dictionary. First, click View, Steno if you don't already have your steno up. Then put your cursor on the offending A. Click your cursor on the A in your notes. It should turn black on the stroke. Press Q for dictionary query. Check the entry in the dictionary. If it appears in more than one dict., you may have entered a bad A. in a job dict. Click on Edit and make sure that Cap Next is flagged.

If it is not in the dict., it may be in your global table. Go to Edit, Apply Globals. This will open up your global table. Check the dictionary entries (even though any dict. entry should have shown up in your Query). Then check the Search and Replace. If you find a bad one, click on Remove.

Let me know if this is the problem. If not, we'll go further, where I'll have you email me your file and I can look at it.

Greta
If neither of those work, check your formatting. Could you have gone into your A format and put an extra tab in?
You should have a Keyboard Accelerator or Quick Key for Insert Colloquy. If you aren't using it, to find out what it is, go to Options, Keyboard. Click on whichever tab you use -- Keyboard Accelerator or Quick Keys. (Quick Keys are the functions without the spacebar; Accelerators use the spacebar) Click on the list, then type "Insert." It will take you to the portion of the list you want. Go down to Insert {C} Paragraph. See what the command is. Close the box.

Execute the command for Insert {C} Paragraph. A box will come up with some default names, unless you have added names to it. The last names you used will be at the top. The next-to-the-bottom choices are New Speaker (where you type in speaker names, which will be saved in your list) and Spaces next to it. Make sure there is a 2 in the Spaces box.
I have clicked Add Speaker to List and Always Capitalize Speaker. That way, any name you type in the New Speaker field will be added to the list, and if you type it in lower case, it will default to upper case. The only time you might not want this is with a "Mc" name, where you want the "c" lower case.

There you go!
Hi Greta,
I am trying to create add-a-space in my digitalCat software. How do I go about doing that? The stroke I want to use is SP-Z. Is there a way to set up a basic number translation, for example, if I stoke out 4,219 it doesn't come out at 4 thousand, 2 hundred, nineteen? I hope I explained that clearly.
Thanks
jayne
For your space, in the English Translation hit your spacebar. If you want your space to stick to the word before it, put a caret (^).

For your number translation, are you using Numbers Resolution under Translator, Dictionaries?
Thanks for the quick reply though I am still confused. I am trying to have a stroke in real time which will add a space to a word, for example runway, say I have it defined in my dictionary as one word but as the person is speaking it needs to be two separate words, run way. I want to have SP-Z set up to add a space to a word in real time, just the opposite of delete space. A better example might be She lives at 3025 (I want to add a space between the numbers by using SP-Z stroke rather than it come out 302529) 29th Street. Hope this make sense. I will check into Numbers Resolution.
Thanks again,
jayne
For the space, go to your dictionary management and open your dictionary. Go to Add Entry. In the English Translation, hit your spacebar to put a physical space in the field. Go to the Steno and insert SP-Z in the steno field. Do not click on any flags. That's it. You just put a physical space in the English Translation.

Then you would write 30/25/SP-Z/29/STRAOET.
Thanks. I am at a workshop for the next three days and I admit I don't know the software as well as I should so there could be many more questions which I will be picking your brain for in the next few days.

Thanks again,
jayne
I have another question, I am putting up in as a prefix - skwrup and up as a suffix kwrup, flagging them as prefix and suffix, and I am getting a conflict. What am I doing right?

Thanks
jayne
Jayne,
The only way you can get a conflict in your dictionary is to either click on the "Edit Conflict" button at the top right-hand side under the starburst, or to manually enter brackets with a | in between your words. Merely flagging suffix or prefix will not make a conflict.

So tell me exactly what is in your dictionary entry and what steps you are going through to create the dictionary entry. This might be hard to do here on the board. Email me and I will reply with my phone number, and you can call me. I know you're in a seminar right now, but just call during a break.
