I highly recommend that everybody sign up for email updates of Margie Kruse's gems.  They will make you laugh but, more importantly, will give you the history of how things started going wrong and how exactly to do your part in reversing it and will validate all the thoughts you've had or ideas you've read about these issues and give you the strength, if you didn't have it already, to JUST SAY NO.
