Eclipse Version 5 Users

This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.

I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.

Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Yes, Kelli.  I was told you want to end up with Version 5.0016.  Evidently you need that .0016 or something doesn't go right.

Welcome to the group, Marla and Judy!  Hi, hi!

Marla, what do you mean If you use 7, 8, 9, or 0 to grab and define....what are you grabbing and defining?

I understand those numbers on Automagic are functions and that they change as the cursor moves.

So the solution is to hit Control or Shift and then you don't get that unwanted function.

I'm sure it's fine.  But now that you have 5 loaded, you can just download 16 from Advantage Software's website pretty easily.

Okay.  I just looked and it's 5.0.0.14.  Hope that's upgraded enough.

Thanks, Stacy.  I just feel this job is stressful enough as it is without having software issues on top of it.  If it wasn't for the V5/Dropbox capability, I don't know that I would have upgraded.  My scopist wanted me to because it makes her life a lot easier, which I'm all about that.  Gotta keep the scopists happy.

You probably got the newest version.  It's 5 point probably a bunch of zeros then 16 :) From your top bar, click help, about Eclipse, and it will tell you the version.

If all your jobs and users (if you use more than one) are in 5, great!  I just had to import mine and had a little trouble because Windows 7 created a weird extra folder.  Support helped me and my set files came over no problem, but what didn't seem to be part of the set file were the things I mentioned.  Oh, and the auto-brief ineligible word category had words back in it, and I had deleted them all.  Now, I didn't call support, so maybe there was/is a way to transfer all the changes you've made in the programming tab, but mine didn't transfer and I've just manually redone things.

Definitely play with it before a job, just to make sure everything's translating, loading, etc.  I really like it ~ I hope it works out well for you :)

I just loaded the disk today for the first time.  Does that mean I don't have to reload the .set file?  It seems everything transferred over.  I may want to try writing with it before I go on a job I guess.

How do I know if I have the latest version and I don't have to reload the .set file?  Do you know which version is the latest?

Yep, it does, which I love.  If a date is said over and over, you get a brief for it!

The one warning I have is if you downloaded V5 a long time ago and then got the disc and want to update, make sure you have your .set files  backed up.  I had V5 for a long time, got the disc, and just loaded it without thinking.   Thank goodness I had good backup.  But the biggest pain was even with the backed up files,  I lost all my auto-brief steno theory strokes I had added as well as auto-replacements I had added and have been re-adding them as I go.

I love Autobrief in V4 and I understand in V5 it includes briefs for numbers, which it didn't before.  I hope that's right.

I've been using version 5 since January and like it.  The task bar on the left is very helpful for suggesting briefs and reminding you of briefs you already have in your dictionary but aren't using.  Your stats can appear there as well instead of in a pop-up window, which invariably is covering something up.

If you use 7, 8, 9, or 0 to grab and define, you've got to change that macro to have a shift or ctrl with it because the task bar is using those keys for editing suggestions.  That's the only PITA thing to get used to, in my opinion.
